M&M aims to sell one lakh pre-owned cars by 2015

Just came across this article. This is fantastic. I feel the used car price might fall now due to competition. By the way how is the used car service section by M&M. Any one who has bought from these dealers can answer this.

Quote:
Mahindra & Mahindra is looking to expand its pre-owned vehicles business with plans to sell one lakh units every year by 2015, for which it will ramp up its outlets by over four-fold

This is the 'nth press release I'm seeing from Mahindra, on how they will expand their network of FirstChoice outlets as well as marketshare . However, and especially over the last couple of years, its been just that (i.e. TALK). Firstchoice has failed to make any headaway into the super large Indian used car market. Firstly, small network. Second, low brand recall. Third, no real justification for the premium pricing. Strange when you consider that they were one of the first organised players to enter the used car segment.

Project had a lot of promise, but just faded away into the background. I'm surprised their 114 existing outlets are even able to stay afloat. Back of the envelope calculations show that, the average sales per Firstchoice outlet were a mere 1.72 cars per week ! Even my neighbourhood-broker-working-from-home can match that number.

I am sure 50,000 would be Logans! Wasn't this the original contract for the logan? If they cannot sell new, probably try selling it as used at a "competent price".

PS: No offence to any present owners of the car. I love it too.
