The philmi guys especially the Directors rarely have car sense in most films. So you can see battered white Ambys with beacons ferrying philmi Ministers with some lean commandos in tow.
Some of the goof-ups that are very apparent can be discussed in this thread. They do not try and procure some new Amby Avigos and Grands which are favourites. Moreover many Ministers have moved over to longer cars and SUV's as official vehicles.
For those who have seen the film "Bombay to Goa", the last scene where the chase is shown-the villian's car (Shatrughan Sinha and Co.), an Ambassador in Oxford blue colour changes over from the Mark II to a oldest Amby model (we call it Mark I here)in the same Oxford blue shade, during the chase.
Similarly 39 years after this film is made, today in 2010, I saw "My Name is Khan" where in a scene President Obama (supposed to be inside the limo) is shown as moving within the US in a Merc limousine.Thats unheard of ! At least a Cadillac or Lincoln Continental would have not attracted such adverse attention. The famous armour plated Cadillac custom built for President Obama was shown extensively in the media in 2009!

The current genre of movies could certainly pick up some taste from yesteryear flicks. Who can forget the astounding choice of cars in Amitabh Movies (e.g. Don) or the beautiful 3 pointed star from Feroz Khan's Dharmatma.

Does anyone remeber Agneepath....the scene where Big B gets to keep his"Appoinment with death" the Mustang he arrives in is shot to bits :Frustrati..... every time i see the movie, how i yearn for that Mustang.....

In recent times, Bollywood has pretty much let go of 'taste' giving way to what is more 'hip' among the crowds!! Take the case of item numbers for instance; almost all of them have a full-blown, bling-bling H2 coupled with some jet-skis, some crotch rockets, etc etc.
Only period movies are the ones where automobiles are given the much required attention.

As far as the usage of classics in recent movies goes; I can remember 2 movies vividly where a character drives around in a particular vehicle for a major part of the movie.
1. Jhankaar Beats has Rahul Bose driving a white Premier Padmini/1100 as a bachelor and a black Morris when he's going through his divorce :D
2. Bluffmaster is one movie where Abhishek Bachchan drives a Mustang convertible in many a scene.

Another nice ride I'd like to mention here would be the Caravan driven by Shahrukh Khan in the movie Swades. All I know about that coach are the 1st generation TATA Safari headlamps that it sports!! Question : What chassis was this particular vehicle built on? Was it a Tempo Traveller or a Swaraj Mazda or something else?

In movie 'Paa', the family moves around in a car which seemlessly transforms between current generation Accord and 2 generations old Accord. Sometimes the boy is droped to the school in the new accord but when he is returning home it turns in to an old Accord. They have made sure that both cars have the same colour thou.
Probably the director thinks audience can't notice such things.

There is this red Honda Del Sol (MH-01-M-510) which is featured in almost every single Hindi movie. The same car which John Abraham purposely crashes off the cliff in Dhoom.

There was more to it than that, they were using Automan to provide the vehicles.

YouTube - Automan

A common practice you all must have noticed in hindi films which is to blow some other car instead of the one in which the whole scene is shot. For instance, a red merc is shown being chased and suddenly a cielo is burnt in its place. And who can forget the film Golmal (new one) part one where there are numerous big sized cars being blown up or crashed for the scene where castrol super chase is shot. the cars include cielos, ford escort, old hondas and even the standard 2000. Feel pity for these cars to end up like that.

In the song Mahi from Raaz 2, the same SUV switches from a Fortuner(on the barge) to an Endeavour(on land)..!

I am not really a movie buff, but from mid 90s movies all I could recall was that maruti omnis were used as kidnap vehicles..And in phir bhi dil hai hindustani, wasn't it too much of a Hyundai promotion? SRK is gifted a green Honda CRX and how come he uses a santro for a chase scene and bangs atop a tree?

Yep. The omni has always been the bad guy's ride! I guess it's the equivalent to the dodge ram vans that all 80's hollywood movies had as their kidnap vehicle!

And finally endeavour/fortuner becomes a Tata Sierra when it is attacked by a bull

Cielo is the most common car used in action scenes of bollywood movies, even a Nissan GTR 34 becomes cielo in movie Race

I have seen in NatGeo , a program called Stuntmen of bollywood where alan amin shows his collection of cielos used for action scenes

In the movie "Sivaji" , a Land Cruiser was replaced by a Scorpio in the later scenes where it was supposed to be damaged.

In "Dhoom" (1), the truck which was used in the chase (A red colored TATA i guess) gets its windshield broken, but again in the later scenes it's shown with the windscreen on, intact.

Heres DCs modified Cielo
for the movie- Tarzan ( i ve not seen it )

It is supposed to look like lambo all through the movie !!
