Auto Bestseller List of 2009-10. Alto stays No.1

As per news item in Hindustan times on 17-apr-10 ,Maruti Alto retained its number one position on the list of 10 top selling automobile models for the sixth year running in 2009-10.Maruti 800 fell off the list altogether for the first time since it was launched in 1983. Ritz is the only car in the list which is a new entrant in the list (on 8th spot ) . The list is :

1. Maruti Alto (2,35,212)
2. I10(1,49,242)
3. Wagon R (1,44,898)
4. Swift (1,16,167)
5. Indica (1,14,415)
6. Santro (86,272)
7. Dzire (83,601)
8. Ritz (63,103)
9. Indigo (56,634)
10. City (45,028 )

Santro emerges as the only car to register a decline in sales.
In SUV segment , seven month old Toyota Fortuner trounces every competitor and it sells more than all the rivals put together in a year.

We should congratulate the City and Dzire given their price points at which they sell.

Honda has managed to do it with the new City.. Again!!

The most popular cars on TBHP find no place there!
Goes to say that the success in india is about what the "common buyer" looks for
Tata, Hyundai, Maruti rule the sales charts clearly!
Honda City enjoys a clear field as nothing else is offered to compete, is some manufacturer listening? All sedans are dated and the closest offering Linea is in the hands of people who have no ambition of setting the charts on fire. Anything that will hit the market and offer competition to the city will surely be a success i feel( provided its in the right hands and positioned well)
