I have always wondered why a mark such as Mazda who has had presence in the utility segment in India for ages now, has not bothered to step into the hot car segment in India? It really amuses me that they havent epecially since they already have a tie-up with Swaraj (Not sure if it still exists) and then there is also Ford (being the parent company) which is already there for ages. Is it that Ford is afraid it will eat up into its own sales of the Fiesta and Figo?

I have driven the latest Mazda 3 in Malaysia which a friend owns and it was fantastic. It looks good too. I think the 3 and 5 atleast has a lot of potential and a lot of people would buy it if it was available.

I also do remember an uncle of mine driving a Mazda when I was a kid and it was a great car. A reliable one too! After all a Jap :D

Guys do post your views and comments on this.

I agree with you. I was in South Africa for a course and this restaurant I used to eat everyday the owner of the place had a MAZDA RX8, I fell in love with that car and wanted to own it from that day onwards. Yes Mazda has lots of other amazing products which would do good.

Well lets hope they read TEAMBHP and get the hint. LOL

Absolutely.. Love the RX8. Its beautiful and fast too. The 1.3l rotary engine on that one is a beauty!

Erm you missed out Suzuki! Btw other countries also have all of them and more.

Anyway, why not?? It will be good for competition (brings prices down) and also at the end benefit all of us as we have more choices. We also get some mean looking cars. Arent the Hondas and Toyotas a little too common now?

Take a look at the cars we are missing out on:

hey i just remembered we had/have mazda in india...Swaraj Mazda!:uncontrol

anyway on a serious note, Mazda cars are not exciting and they dont sell in good numbers.

oh i forgot suzuki, i thought thats already Indian Brand now!:D

I doubt it. Mazada has some very excellent cars in their portfolio like the RX8 (would love to own one in India if possible). The new Mazada 2 and 3 series hatches also look very good.

There was once a rumour that the new Ford Fiesta could be launched as a Mazada car in India and would also have been Mazada's re-entry into Indian market but I guess this plan has now been shelved :(.

I've driven Mazda-6 AT for few months in Saudi. Real fast babies. Similar to Nissans, high revving engines and rockets at traffic lights. But again, light builds compared even to Honda or Hyundais. When I shifted from Toyota to Mazda, I felt nervous initially with the lightness of the car.
If Mazda comes to India with their 3's and 6's, it sure will join the GTO's Game Changer List.

I had a initial thought during my school days, that Maruti 800 looks were based on a Mazda, the old ones, was i wrong?.

I love the Mazdas, i wish they make a way into the indian market.

Mazda cars were popular in 80's in KSA, it came in 3 models:
Mazda 323, Mazda 626 & Mazda 929.

First two were not successful, frequently give trouble and always need
spending money to keep it running and no resale value in KSA market. First two models were front wheel driven frequent front axle problem surface.

I used to own Mazda 929, which were bigger and were successful from Mazda models and still few cars were seen on the roads.

Now the Mazda 6 series which is improved version of 626 and Mazda 9x
series is best from Mazda, it is SUV and bigger and beautiful designed lot of them seen on roads here. It rivals were BMW x5, Cheyenne, etc.

I loved my Mazda MX6. Hence my handle. Pity I had to sell it off before I left US. One day I hope to buy the Miata (MX5)

oh that's how "MX6" came from!

Anyway, from the Mazda pics above, it looks like they are a bit "overstyled". Like the cars from the brand Infiniti. Not truly beautiful IMHO.

I would like Citroens to come to India.

May be OT.. Aren't Mazda cars the only production cars using Wankel engines?

Yes but thats only the RX8.I really hope comes to india,as a high quality reliable jap manufacturer at decent prices, with good designed products.

I look forward to see Mazda enter the Indian car market.
BTW neither Swaraj nor Mazda now has any stake in Swaraj Mazda!! The company is primarily owned by sumimoto corp. of Japan.
