1) I am not sure if the new Fiesta hatch will be coming or not. What we will mostly get is the seadn based on the new hatch.

2) About Figo there are the chances that Ford is planning to bring back the 1.4 petrol that was earlier offered in the current Fiesta sold here.

In the Figo test drive thread I did mention that the 1.4 petrol from Fiesta would do wonder for the sales numbers and the car needs it ( rather than deserving ). IMO, this 1.4 petrol in Figo will pull a lot of customers from Swift as Swift is having unpardonable waiting period in both petrol and diesel formats.

3) The 1.6 pertol has very less chance of getting into Figo. The 1.6 will be offered in the new Fiesta sedan. If the new Fiesta is also coming in hatch form, IMO the 1.4 petrol will be in the hatch, 1.6 in sedan.

It would not make sense to bring a 1.4 petrol if its only application is in the Figo. Either Ford plan to slot it in the future Fiesta hatch as well or they could be testing a 1.6 petrol in the Figo. Time for a Figo S?

If this really does comes true - may god bless you :D

+1 to your opinion. If Ford has good business acumen, then they will take this route. No point allowing a hatch to gormandize sales of a sedan.

The supposed Fiesta hatch reminds me of Jazz, is it only me or what?

I am with you on that. Feel the same!

No offence to Sunil and Sachin, This car is very different from Jazz. If you start generalising the car then obviously it will remind you about something or other. I feel this 'reminds me' sounds like ' copied'. Imagine India has just few cars and if we start getting all models from US or Europe then we will find every other copy 'reminds me' of other car. I don't want to bash anyone but that's how I feel.

Coming back to topic on new fiesta hatch - this is very successful model of Ford. It is highest selling model in Europe and UK from past few months and is well appreciated by all auto enthusiasts. If this comes to India then I am sure it will sell good and should repeat success of i20.

This is how I see it:
  1. Ford might be testing a new tail lamp based on the rear looks feedback and then may call cars already sold for retro fitments for those interested. This was last done by Hyundai for Elantra for its headlamps within 2-3 months of launch.
  2. The model being tested is the European Fiesta and competes with the likes of Polo, i20, Corsa in the same segment in Europe. Since both Polo & i20 have already garnered good sales for themselves in the premium hatch segment, Ford might be thinking of entering that segment. Engine might still be a 1.2 Petrol / 1.4 Diesel (might be higher tuned specs) to benefit from the Excise duty regulations.
  3. I don't see the 1.4 Petrol making a comeback as the engine majorly suffered on Emission and FE norms and with stricter BS-IV norms the engine might not be improved. IIRC, the 1.4 petrol mill was a Rocam unit and not Duratec.
Bottomline, expect to see some exciting hatches from Ford Stable!

1.4 and 1.6 is all fine but that ford figo is an older prototype which was undergoing testing before the figo was launched.
That tail light design was probably discarded in favour of the one we have on the figo currently.
If the figo was getting new tail lights they would definitely have covered them with camo.

+1 to that. Hyundai will be very very worried as the Fiesta hatch will be priced in the same bracket as i20 too IMO.

i20 prices start from 4.5L after the launch of Era variant.
If Ford launches the new Feista hatch at this price it might kill it's own baby Figo.

So, Ford might launch this car only in the upper end of B segment as a performance hatch with 1.6Duratec engine. Maybe after 3 years when Figo sales slide down they will plonk the smaller engines too into the 2011 Fiesta.

Great scoop.

That Fiesta hatch is beautiful. I am sure there will be a lot of takers if priced similar to the i20. It looks sharp and the design is fresh.

OT - just a couple or so days back, "5th gear" (a show on discovery turbo) host Tiff Needell described the Fiesta as "the best handling hatch ever".

Hi Brothers, this is my first post in Team BHP. :)
I like to add a few more points on the Figo scoop!

1. While successful models like i10, Swift are all undergoing facelifts and a near future launch, Ford might have kept this mildly altered Figo ready for a launch. And I guess, this time Ford cannot afford to lose the winning momentum.

2. Regarding the Fiesta hatch, I guess its not for India. Otherwise, how is Ford going to position the new car in its Indian portfolio? Also, like our fellow Team-BHPians said, I agree that people have not favored performance petrol hatches so far. The fate of Fiat Palio Stile is an example!:D

Even critics at Top gear especially Clarkson has some thing similar to say about the Ford Fiesta. This model seems to be one of the very best so far.

I don't feel Ford India would make any cosmetic / engine changes to the Figo at this stage. The simple logic is when the car , that too a recent launch, is selling so well, why change ? I guess Ford is testing the car for the export market , where it would be offered with some changes in the design / specifications, as per the requirements of the particular market.

It's a known fact that a new model Fiesta is coming out next year. Maybe they are bringing out a hatch and a sedan for this. For the Figo, probably a diversion. if you notice the Figo did not get into side roads only the Fiesta did.
