Just like the current Skoda Octavia vRS will the new (A5) Skoda Octavia vRS be detuned (have lesser power) when it is launched in India or will it have the same power (147 kW - 200 bhp) as the ones sold in the international market as we now have better fuel? My heart wants me to believe we will get the same engine specifications, but my head says otherwise.

Now, please don't start off with posts like engines can be chipped etc. by people who want more power etc. The topic here is what will we get from Skoda Auto, India.

I feel around 170-180bhp can be expected in India. That's more than enuf by Indian standards.

The new Skoda vRS makes 200 BHP but i am sure it will be detuned for India to around 170 BHP but even that will be a cracker.

That's exactly what I think too.

If you see things that way then an Hyundai Accents power is enough to do the job and even the current Skoda Octavia vRS is a waste. Also, I am Indian, it's not enough by my standards (hehe!)... People who don't want much of power should be very happy with the new Ford Fiesta (ABS and EBD are available options, but Airbags are not  LOL)

But then the Accent is not the quickest in it's class. The Octy RS already is the fastest and the extra boost is more than welcome.

It would have been a diff story if Honda were to launch their 2 ltr 200 bhp Civic here but, that maynot happen. So, the RS has nothing to worry about.

So true! That's what makes it so easy for Skoda Auto, India... No competition in the Indian market!!

An Accord V6 M/T is all i ask for. 0-60mph in 6.2 secs!!!

Get out of my mind or at least stop reading it lol: I wouldn't even fart on a Skoda Octavia vRS if we get a manual V6 Honda Accord.

Will they bring in an FSI engine in the first place - it is very fussy re Petrol Quality

FYI, current Octy RS is NOT detuned. There was a 150 horse version of that engine for a long time in the states (Jetta 1.8T) and that is what we are getting for India.

As far as FSI, I dont think there should be a problem. 760i and Phantoms in India feature FSI are are ingesting Indian brew.

Tuned or detuned, from the Jetta or a country like Quetta... The point I was trying to make is that the current Indian Skoda Octavia vRS has lesser power than the same model being sold abroad.

I agree with that. There were times when I felt that the 100 hp on my Palio was too much for Indian roads.

Hey Mpower, the Octavia RS is detuned in India. The VW Jetta 1.8T had 180HP.

The new Skoda vRS does it in arnd 7sec so not much of a difference...unless its detuned. IMO the vRS would be a more fun car to drive than the accord

Just in case you weren't aware (though I'm sure Shan2nu is!!!), the new shape Accord now actually features a manual 6 speed for the V6, which it didn't earlier. Hopefully inside a year it'll be in India!!!

Shan2nu, is this box lifted from the RSX/Accord coupe?

Nice poetry, now here are some facts...
US market Jetta 1.8T had 150bhp from the time it was launched up until 2003 when the 180 bhp spec version came out. There was also a 170 bhp version of this engine used in Audi A4 in 2002. One of my good friends has a 01 Golf Gti with the same 150 horse engine. The Indian Jetta just got the 150hp spec version. Detuning will make you lose 5-10% power not more. Is it just a co-incidence that after detuning the 180 horse version they ended up at 150 which was the same rating as their earlier engine?
As far as the new 2.0 FSI, there is only one turbo version. The is also a non turbo FSI version I believe.
