Autocar goofs-up acceleration figures...twice in a row?

In the modifications section of the Nov 2005 issue (Page 106), Autocar had tested the 235bhp Skoda RS, tuned by Pete's.

Now, the acceleration figures in that issue were as follows :

Kmph -- Stock RS -- Moded RS (wet)
10 -- 0.69 -- 0.88
20 -- 1.13 -- 2.19
30 -- 1.69 -- 3.12
40 -- 2.28 -- 3.70
50 -- 2.95 -- 4.31
60 -- 3.70 -- 5.00
70 -- 4.74 -- 5.95
80 -- 5.80 -- 6.98
90 -- 6.98 -- 8.02
100 -- 8.30 -- 9.11
110 -- 9.93 -- 9.68
120 -- 11.74 -- 9.70
130 -- 13.62 -- 9.72
140 -- 15.85 -- 15.90
150 -- 18.55 -- 17.65
160 -- 22.23 -- 20.79

In this months issue (December 2005 - Page 9), this is what they've printed.

Erratum
The acceleration table in the "Modifications" article in the November 2005 issue inadvertently carried jumbled-up figures.
They should have read as :

Kmph -- Stock RS -- Moded RS (wet)
10 -- 0.55 -- 0.88
20 -- 1.05 -- 2.19
30 -- 1.78 -- 3.12
40 -- 2.46 -- 3.70
50 -- 3.18 -- 4.31
60 -- 3.99 -- 5.00
70 -- 5.19 -- 5.95
80 -- 6.32 -- 6.98
90 -- 7.63 -- 8.02
100 -- 9.06 -- 9.11
110 -- 10.76 -- 9.68
120 -- 12.95 -- 9.70
130 -- 15.20 -- 9.72
140 -- 17.62 -- 15.90
150 -- 20.50 -- 17.65
160 -- 24.12 -- 20.79

Ok, so they've corrected the figures for the Stock RS but, look at the acceleration on the moded one. 100-130kmph takes just 0.61 secs where as, 130-140kmph takes 6.18 secs!!!!!. 3.76 secs lower than a Stock RS?????

I have never heard of any car with such in-consistant acceleration figures. This is practically, or even technically not possible. I believe the acc figures between 100 and 130kmph need to be checked again.

I saw that article. Could'nt they have waited for the rain to clear up.
...or driven 100 kms to where there is no rain. Not the kind of PR Pete needs.

well, even if the road was wet, i don't think you can manage that sort of timings- unless you are deliberately slipping the clutch in third and taking it slow; but then, it doesn't count as an acceleration run, and the figures are only academic- taken just for the sake of publishing.

The way i see it, the figures for the Moded RS should have read as follows :

Kmph -- Moded RS
100 -- 9.11
110 -- 10.68
120 -- 11.70
130 -- 13.72
140 -- 15.90

Its still raining here in Kerala. Donno whens its gonna stop . Maybe they should come down again and do a test when its dry. NH 47 from Cochin to Alapuzha should be fine.

These Autocar figures are all crap.

I dont trust any of the Stock vs modd Skoda figures, new or old.

Maybe we should do our own tests with the Gtech. We have a stock RS with us, now all we need is Pete's modded RS. Pete, let us know if you are up to it with the silver one you have here.

Auto car meesed it up alright. They had only wrong figures and they had the wrong ones published. We have no say in these. But we know the truth and we will be glad to give you the demo car in Mumbai but it is not finished fully and should be ready in the next weeks. I'll let you know as soon as that car is done.

Also BS Motoring carried a review and they had the timings better. Guess it all depends on so many things. All I know is the car is faster than all they have written. I guess you'll be able to prove it R-tech

They use the Vbox testing equipment. GPS based.

But, the results from the Gtech were barely 0.1 away from their results.
