BMW to launch Mini countryman (crossover) in India in 2011

Exclusive: Maxi size Mini agenda

Not just a CBU
Mini will launch the Countryman variant which will be assembled locally at the BMW plant in Chennai. The Countryman is the first Mini to be assembled outside of the UK to begin with, as its being built in Graz, Austria by Magna Steyr under contract.
the Countryman is likely at a sub twenty lakh rupee price-point

Spoke to the dealer today, He said they have plans since a long time but have no confirmation as of now. Also I think news like this keep coming up every few months and until there is an official press release from BMW or any of it's group companies it's only mere speculation.

I hope this happens as Mini esp. if assembled will sure be another story of fascination by BMW India.

yup! as said in the article too there were plans earlier.
But earlier it was hatches, and it will be too expensive like the fiat 500.
This time, it is a crossover, so the propects seem better.

There was a review in Car and Bike show. Will be repeated today at1.30pm on NDTV Profit(or NDTV 24x7 not sure which one).
