what do you think is best engine speed to shift to next gear for best fuel efficiency?ive heard that in cars with knock sensors we should not let the car go below 1200rpm because knock sensor can waste fuel,i think the rpm should never be streched beyond maximum torque point if we are extracting most out of every litre.i have been experimenting frequently.i got best efficiency from my accent on driving between 1700rpm-2700rpm.i never had problem with diesel cars because whichever way i drive them they never sip much diesel.

[SIZE=2]2000rpm is ideal according to me for fuel effeciency but again this is subjective as cars with low "low end torque" requires slightly higher shifts. For example in my VTEC, 2500rpm shifts are perfect or else there is every probability that I might encounter knocking, till the next gear picksup revvs. Cars with no knock sensor will demand a higher rpm shift... No clue about diesels as Ive never used one...[/SIZE]

A very experienced chauffer ( he really is an amazing driver) told me that in 1st gear, one must shift at 2500-300 and take it easy in the rest of the gears.

Exactly the point... Every engine is different and the torque and power curves are different... So the shift should differ accordingly.

No offence to the person who started the thread... but this thread makes no sense.. Or someone could start talkin about the shift rpm on each car... And the Poll is useless and wont get us to any conclusion. Most of the the low end cars dont even have a tachometer... Howeverl u can talk based on speed but... well back to my first question... wats the point?

I think 2000 to 3500 would be an optimum range for any petrol car. Diesels will have a lesser point.

My God, The safari Dicor redlines at 3000 rpm. :D

I usually shift between 2500-2700 rpm.

How does it help you to get the best efficiency? In terms of performance and fuel?

Its the specific rpm where the engine produces maximum torque .

it will be different for different cars ...in a mpfi zen ..i ahve got best Fe while staying below 2k and shifting between 1500-2k....FYI the mpfi zen does 80 kph in 5th gear at 2k rpm .

I am with nitrous. The specific point may vary but generally, it should be in the range of 2000 to 3500 rpm for most petrol cars in India.

And the Dicor really redlines at 3K? Thats like big buses/trucks!!

if your really concerned about fuel efficiency i feel its ok to shift between 1500 - 2000 rpm.

which car do you drive ? I keep my RPM at 2500 on average for good fuel efficiency but I am really power hungry kind of person and most of times I drive NHC at 3000 RPM - 100-110kmph :D
