It even had new tyres that had hardly run a couple of thousand km. OK they were JK tyres, not what I would pick at all, but fine, new tyres. Saved me quite a lot of money, beater or not I'd probably have put Michelins on them :)

But that's exactly what I assumed the OBV calculators factor in. Demand supply, model availability etc. Save the actual condition of the car they should be able to factor in all other factors.

Separately, related to the second post you quoted, does one look at the price when the vehicle was bought new or the current price of a new vehicle to judge its resale value?

And finally I am considering a couple of BR-Vs in Bangalore. A 2018 (24k kms) model and a 2017 model (30k kms), Cvt versions. Both are through dealers. What do you think will be a fair price for them? Anything specific to look out for on BR Vs.

It really depends on the equation which the calculators use.

For mass market (not collector item) vehicles, the used car price is most certainly calculated using the full sticker price of when the car was purchased new.

For Bangalore, a 2-3yr old BR-V CVT (~15.8L when new) should be worth anywhere from 10L-11L IF it’s in good condition. Remember it’s a discontinued model & also didn’t sell well. So don't be willing to pay too much of a premium for it. The vehicle itself, being a Honda, is trouble free.

As with any used car, get it thoroughly inspected by a trusted mechanic/ASC, before you buy it.

I don't know about Kerala but this car won't fetch even 2 lakhs in Delhi. 5.75 lakhs is way too high for an 8 year old vehicle. Jettas are wonderful vehicles but they have atrocious resale value. Last year I sold my 2012 Jetta Highline DSG AT with similar mileage for just 2 lakhs. That too with a lot of difficulty.

The delhi price for this would be in the range of 3.5-3.75 max for a mint condition car.

For around 4 lakhs you can find honda accords 2012-2013 easily in delhi, the used car market in this segment is in the dumps here!

For an almost 4yr old, lightly used, manual Vento, I think 6L is a decent offer IF it’s in mint condition. Otherwise reduce the offer if money needs to be spent post purchase for essentials (tyres, battery, scratches, etc).

For the Corolla AT, if the mileage of 90,000kms is genuine (and can be proved) and the vehicle has a full service history (which can be proved), it may be worth 4L if it has a brand new battery & 4 new tyres. Otherwise, like mentioned by another member, 3.75L tops.

The reason for this is that 99% of the ads on OLX are of dealers or middlemen and they quote obscene rates. You call someone and say you have a corolla 2012 to sell in pristine condition then see the rate he quotes :D

Thanks. 6L is their budget. Is this 2017 Vento Petrol MPI Comfortline variant worth 6L? We were thinking of offering 5L for it. What was the ex-showroom price for this variant in 2017? I tried to find it but could not get the correct information.

I sincerely apologise, I somehow read your query as a highline variant. Absolutely, for a comfortline, 5L tops. I would actually start at 4.5L because the engine is discontinued.

Doesn’t Lexus offer 3yr/100,000kms warranty in India? That should bring in some peace of mind.

The only qualms I would have with this car is if it was an accidental or flooded vehicle (reason for such a quick sale?).

As with ANY used car, get it checked by a trusted mechanic/ASC before you even start negotiations.

What are the things to look for a used crv?
How are the spare parts availability?
