Dude, I think he's talking about the ORIGINAL HIMALAYAN RALLY organised by the Himalayan Rally Association from 1980 to 1988 or thereabouts.

Oh okay my bad. I dont think there are any old timer rallyists from the north on this forum. My dad was there in 86/87 though. Have some old pics lying around. Maharaja Satbir Singh of Jind, one of the pioneers is a good friend though.

I have some videos on tape about the Himalayan Rally which was won by Rod Millen in a Mazda 323 turbo.

I also recall some jap guy won in 2-3 times in a Galant VR-4. (Kenjiro Shinozuka I think is the name)

The only reason they came was because it was a part of the Asia Pacific series. Mostly tarmac...sorta like Monte Carlo.

HRA and the rally are what put Nazir Hussein on FIA's buddy list.

Re: Himalayan Rally

Hi, I have decided to participate in the Upcoming Raid which is due to happen in the month of October. Plan on participating in the 2wheel Moto Alpine category.

Need some help from the veterans here on the following.
1. Is the Hero Impulse a good bike for this sort of event.
2. What sort of gear is required.
3. As i am from Bangalore, how to manage pit stops and machinery support.
4. If you take a full FMSCI 2w rally license, can u still take part in the novice category.
5. Is there any one in this form who has taken part in the previous event raid on a bike.
6. Does any one have a bike ready for this event, which i can buy second hand.

Cheers,
Vishal
