A career in Motorsports industry!!!

Hey guys well a couple of months back i came across this wonderfull course in UK called as the M.Sc. in motorsports management.i thought i might just share it with all of y'all.well i am really interested in making a career in the auto industry and if given a choice the motorsports industry which i know and is the obvious choice of almost all the car and bike freaks.i was searching courses courses regarding the same and came across this.I raised this thread so that everyone checks it out and if we all can share our views or if someone knows better about it can share the info. or probably the members who live in UK might be able to throw some more light on the same especially regarding how good the course actually is or maybe the job placement scenario.i have been researching the same for a couple of months now and have found 3 good universities,am also in touch with the university people,but many of you may know how they would choose to reply.you can check out the websites on the following links.

this is the link to Coventry university which according to a education consultancy in mumbai is supposed to be the best for this course.

Apart from these courses,i bumped into this another fantastic course in USA,the institute is called Universal Technical Institute,it offers motor repair and maintainence courses for Automobiles,Motorcycles,Trucks,nascar racing cars,Marine vehicles.I particularly liked the Motorcycle dept. They even have manufacturer specific training where we can choose our preferable manufacturer,the offered ones being all 4 Japanese biggies,Buell and Harley Davidson. They claim that on completion of the course you would be placed in the respective company's workshop.The manufacturer based option being true for the Automobile courses also where in they have Porsche also!

I know about these courses. But the problem particularly with motorsports engg is that its very dicey, I had opted out of this years Automotive design engg in Coventry Univ for the sole reaso, that UK has always been a difficult place to find a job after you pass out coz very few employers come forward to make ur work permit etc. They prefer EU citizens rather than Asians. Now after spending 3 or 3+1 year sandwhich course, if u dont get a job, frankly in India there is nothin that u can do other than remain unemployed with that motorsports engg degre, coz its still unknown to Indians. Moreover this is a very specialised feild. But the irony is that when I asked coventry's Engg HOD about this motorsports engg, he said that the motor sports companies like Subaru in WRC or Ferrari in F1 take engineers from auto or mechanical engg & recruit them in crucial & very responsible positions in designing & engineering rather than motorsports engg degree holders.

Even i was planning to go in for one of these courses after i finish my mechanical engineering 2 years from now . so adhiraj would you say that its better to do a masters in the US or something cause of the job placement ? Well very rightly said adhiraj. Job placement in UK is indeed the primary concern for everyone going to UK. Infact that is the main reason i am being dicey about going ahead for it. I went through the year book for Cranfield college and managed to find contact of one Indian guy. I was in touch with him through email. He has done the same course, however has done his Auto. engg. from the same college. Even he said the same thing about the placement's. Infact he said that there is no such thing as campus placements and that they are not really happy about their jobs going out to Asians.
Hence the UTI institute in USA looks like a good option. I wanted to consider that to gain some relevant work experience and then probably move to UK for the Motorsports Engg. course. It should help in fetching a job. And ofcourse the whole point of doing the course is getting a placement otherwise as we all know there is no such thing in India.

First of all, yes its true to a great extent. Any day, given a choice they would take a good mechanical student & train them on those skilled works & recruit them over motorsports enginners. Coz the mechs have their basics & fundamentals of engg crystal clear.And as far as risk factor is concerned, for them many opt for that motosports engg course as they have plenty of job opprtunity, but as for us Indians, there isnt much of an opening if u have to come back to this country for some reason or the other. then this degree wont be of much use as India's state towards motorsports is far backdated & will take atleast 10 years to reach that position where motorsports Industry will take specialised engineers. If u see the statistics you would see that very few international students take up motorsports engg as compared to automotive engineering, for the same reason that if by any chance it doesnt click atleast you can bag some other job in automotive sector but not vice-versa though.We need to get one thing very clear here, motorsports engg & automotive engg has almost every study module common, & automotive engineering has a bit more. After all, motorsports sans race driver is nothing but a car.

currently, i got my admission (2010) at cranfield university for my masters in motorsports engineering and management. i want to know what other options are available for a master degree in UK. leave out, brunel.. cranfield.. oxford brookes.. coventry and kingston. are there any professional/motorsport based schools ??

Now this is a good thread. Engineering is great. But what about people like me who have landed up doing marketing but want to pursue a career in motorsports in some way. I was on the lookout for courses in Motorsports marketing. Though a google threw up some results, its all just a blur.

References of marketing careers with motorsports would be Marketing profiles with participating teams/manufacturers, JMI (Just Marketing International-sponsorships) and Allsport Management (trackside advertising and Formula One Paddock Club) et al.

If anyone comes across any dependable/accredited motorsport marketing course/s please do share links (with why you think they would be good). Or maybe even other gates to enter the industry.

Any academic program in motorsport itself is pretty rare, as you can see ... and all the programs are on the technical side.

A program in motorsports marketing would be REALLY super-specialised, and it's unlikely that there will be even a few institutions offering this.

A better way to achieve your objective might be to take up a course in marketing at a university which is physically close to large motorsport populations. You can be sure that these motorsports populations will draw on local colleges for their marketing internship / recruitment needs.

Two places that I can think of are :

Oxfordshire in the UK (check out BBC - Oxford - Sport - Oxfordshire's motorsport heritage)

and

North Carolina in the US (check out NCMA North Carolina Motorsports Association)

Do keep this thread freshened with what you find out ...

Just decided to do some follow up on the Hindustan Academy course mentioned above.

Of interest, was the last comment dated 17th May 2013, which mentions a Cornerstone International College.

Googled it's website and arrived at http://www.cornerstone.edu.in/motors...ngineering.php

Also had a look at their FB page , http://www.facebook.com/motorsportengineering , which seems to have a fair bit of activity.

Not sure how many students have taken up this program, and / or what their feedback is.

Would be nice to know from someone with first-hand knowledge / experience.
