There are a lot of other devices than a Race America and VBOX. You have the drift box, veypour etc etc. So what are you looking at?
Mazda is not a rookie trying to prove some dumb point. He has been there and done that, while most are simple keyboard warriors. Take a chill pill!

He's just asking, man. Is there some sort of a rule saying that you can't ask people questions if they have motorsport experience? BTW, the DriftBox is the same as the VBox, just measures slip angles as well. And the Veypour is normally error-prone, since most models (if not all) run off a moving wheel -- cannot account for wheelspin/hop etc.

Mazda, hope you get back behind the wheel soon!

I am surprised this is coming from someone who is amongst those of "us" who insist for "timing slips" on a drag strip and keep asking for "fair rules". So by your theory, aren't the people organizing (except for Hyd) these events experienced too or the participants who normally take the podium? That doesn't mean we don't ask questions right?

Either ways, I was just trying to figure out how "accurate" Mazda's equipment is compared to a Vbox and the cost difference (since not everyone can afford timing system from Race America or other companies or even a Vbox for that matter). We have seen plenty of claims over the years and like the saying goes, "Seeing is believing". And Joel, you have been in this trade long enough to realize that timings change with altitude amongst other factors. Or are we trying to defy physics here?

No disrespect to the mans laurels though.

@Akshay - Driftbox is same as VBOX yes, and I have used it tool. Its still not a VBOX :). The Veypour can be run off the wheel which is not powering. On FWD cars, u can signal it to the rear wheel and vice versa. All that I wanted to say is that Mazda would anyways not be kidding with some stupid timings like the others and an esteem doing 16 odd secs is not fancy.

@McLaren - Relax mate, I'm not trying to prove you wrong. I was just wondering why you kept insisting on the same story over and over. ofcourse I take drags and circuit racing a lot more seriously than most here do and today its part of my job. I sure know how much tuning varies with difference in elevation as low as 50mtrs.

Guys some news!!

Just spoke to Mr. Mandeep of APMSC. He said that on the request of people from banglore and other places, the drags have been postponed (but confirmed) to the 3rd and 4th of OCT.

The SR for the 3rd round of Deccan Quartermile Drag will be out on their website Andhra Pradesh Motor Sports Club in another 2-3 hrs (according to Mr. Mandeep himself).

So how many of us are participating this time?

Cheers
Shrey

I'm in!!!!
This is gonna be fun. Thanks Shey for the update!

I'm still waiting for the cheques from the last event!

3rd & 4th october 2009.
seems like the site has been updated: Andhra Pradesh Motor Sports Club

wasn't the location to be changed as per Mandeep's own words few weeks back?
The regulations document still states that the drag strip is the same!

Mods can we have a seperate thread for the upcoming 3rd leg of this event on 3rd n 4th Oct?
