i had gone to one of the stages to watch. we went at 6 o clock in morning and were eagerly waiting for the first cars to arrive at the 8:35 flag off.
obviously the first car was gaurav gill. we could hear the engines started and warmed up in the paddocks. we also heard the car leave the timing mark. this stage was pretty twisty and in the mountains on tarmac. it was a wonderful experience to even await the first car as you can hear it for a while before actually seeing it.
gill was so unbelievably fast, that i the only thing i could figure out was a red blur going past...
saw him jump about a foot high. it was interesting to realise that when the cars jump, the engines free-rev and wail gloriously while in air and the drivers wrestle with the car to regain control when it lands on the ground... i know its not the fastest way around, but it sure is the most spactacular!
i kinda felt that everyone else pretty much had their hands full with their cars. of course they would, since they were doing 100 plus on roads where i had trouble touching 50! but gill was in a class of his own.
overall, a fantastic experience!!
