Raid De Himalaya 2011: Dates announced: From 8th October 2011 to 16th October 2011

Early Entry Fee Adventure: 48,000/- :Shockked:
(increased from 30,000/- last year)

Early Entry Fee Extreme: 40,000/-
(increased from 30,000/- last year)

Early entry starts from 1st of April 2011, so time now to start saving money.

Yes, I am going.

95% in Adventure but 5% plans are for extreme (if funds raised in time)
we are two drivers without navigator,

Last year we participated in Gypsy. But this year if I found a good navigator I am thinking of participating in Maruti 800 stupid:

I think I can complete the raid with Maruti 800, but we have to forget about ranking. Mere completion in a stock and basic car like Maruti 800 is biggest victory for me.

If I plan with Maruti 800 then we need at least two navigators, because in any case our gypsy will participate for sure, so one navigator for maruti and one for gypsy.

And one more thing: We are planning to participate as a team of 4 to 5 vehicles, so everybody interested is WELCOME

Yes for sure, agree: even as per the raid website: if you are participating in Adventure you need some money, but if you are participating in Extreme you need lot of money.

Hi, I am the proud owner of a New Toyota Fortuner and allways had SUVs before, Driving to the Himalayas is a dream to me and i see it often ;-)
But i have never tried offroading or extreme driving before and a complete starnger to all that.

Can i participate in the raid de himalaya rally ??

Yes, You can participate in Raid De Himalaya. With Toyota Fortuner you can hit the podium. All you need to do is:
a. Wait for First of April to deposit entry fee. (Account No. will be updated later)
b. Complete the documentary formalities in time. (We all will help you)
c. Get Navigation Training from Mr. Sudev Brar (Optional but recommended by all experienced ones)
d. Nothing left, you are ready to rock.

Very True Sir: But keeping in view the rough terrain and that too on heights of Himalaya, power is important part. Gypsy in 4X4 gears (specially low) climbs easily and we found it difficult in 2 wheel drive and even in 4X4 also. This is the main concern why I am double minded, Yes space and comfort level in M800 is far better then gypsy. Anyways I am still thinking about M800. Otherwise our Gypsy is ready to rock.

Regarding Maruti 800:- Mine is 2006 Model: What modifications are recommended.
Some coming to my mind are:
1. Under Body protection.
2. Normal Tube less tyres without alloys. (presently I have alloys)
3. Increase some height with spacers etc. (not sure what this term is called).
4. K&N Filter.

Just came back from Desert Storm 2011. Participated with 11Yr old carburated Esteem and finished 9th in Xplore behind the Official Maruti Team (Sx4 & Dzire).
Few questions:
1. Are Roll Cages mandatory?
2. Will a carburated Esteem take the Raid challenge?
3. I got headers done with Rally intake filters, also raised height with spacers, will this suffice..?
4. Any additional mods required..?
5. Did DS11 without GPS, will it be required for Raid..?

In my discussion with folks, it came out that in Raid there are very few "multiple tracks" like in the Rann or Sand, so navigation is much easier. People said GPS in Raid is not as critical as the DS.
BTW I have attended Sudev Brar's TSD camp, and after the DS experience I have taken the Road Book as the "Holy Bible" :)
