I wonder why only mazda has wankel in one car only.

What I have read is BMW tried to use wankels but didnt meet with success. mazda bought the half developed engine technology and developed the wonderful Rx-7.

RX-7 was a greater success than the RX-8...
it had a more power, built on a race car chassis it was a world class touring car..
i hate the fact that a RX8 succeeding a revolutionary sportscar has 4 doors ...it looks like a turtle from the side ...

I have seen the rx-8 inside out. I wouldnt say the same thing. the rear doors are just functional at best.

According to me its a worthy successor to the rx-7

just makes me wonder why the other car companies havent capitalized on the wankel engines.they r technologically more efficient, utilise less space.

Wankel patents have expired. The engine has problems with hi fuel/oil consumption and wearing out of oil seals which necessitated engine rebuilds every 40K at least in the RX-7.

Is this true? I just know that BMW Sold the Wankel engine technology for very cheap in those days and since Mazda has made bucks outta the machine like crazy.

I dont know of any other manufacturer using the same technology yet.
