Sorry for being ignorant - is S4 the Sport version of A4? If so what are the changes - engine, interiors, etc.? Would be thankful if someone can chip in! :-)

Yes it is. Audi generally has a hierarchy of A, S & RS.
A4,6,8 etc are 95% of the cars that we see on the road. S4,6 etc are beefed up sportier versions of the normal street A versions (the all new S8 has just been launched with 520hp and 650nm, mad car. check it out) and finally the RS cars are completely over the top with power to rival supercars and to probably put some of them to shame. Best example: Audi RS 6. 5.2 litre v10 twin turbo from the Lamborghini Gallardo rated at 581bhp.

Pointless lunatic car ! But we love them nonetheless dont we now. LOL
The S4 has a 3 litre supercharged version tuned to 325 ~ bhp. The same engine is seen in the new A6 albeit detuned to 300 hp i think

Thanks! I was watching a show on Nat Geo yesterday on Audi R8. Is that same as RS, or a different breed altogether? Apparently, R8 is actually built on Gallardo platform, and the real Supercar from Audi stable.

Audi has so far used the RS nomenclature only on its sedans. The R8 is altogether a different car meant to compete with the likes of the Gallardo, 430/458,911 turbo etc. Yes its built on the same platform and also sports the same 5.2 litre v10 engine from the gallardo making close to 550bhp. Its also available in a V8 version making around 450ps

I read the whole thread, but did not find the mention of an Indian release anywhere? Apologies, incase it was mentioned and I missed it. When is it expected to hit the Indian shores? I was planning to book a Merc C-class, and then went for a drive in the A4 and was more impressed with the gadgets in here, while the drive of the C-class was much better.
Now I am waiting for january to buy a new car. Hard decisions ahead.

It looks exactly like the current 2008 - 2011 models. I believe the only change is in the front headlamps.

i somehow prefer the prefacelift lights, the new facelift lights look VW types, so they plan to keep the jewel leds only for the R8, Q7?
