McLaren F1 Successor to debut in late 2012 or early 2013!

The legend, the original hypercar is coming back. McLaren has spoke, the much anticipated F1 successor is prepping to debut in late 2012 or early 2013.
Quote:
In late 2012 or early 2013, the highly-anticipated F1 successor - codenamed the P12 - will debut. The car will reportedly have an output in excess of 800 hp (596 kW / 811). A year later, the company will follow up with the P13 which is designed to battle the Porsche 911. Given its lower price tag, production could total 2,500 units annually.
Speaking with Motor Trend, managing director Antony Sheriff said all the new models will be "true McLarens" with "performance and handling that's the best of its segment." Additionally, the cars will have a carbon-fiber tub that is based on the one used in the MP4-12C.

Re: McLaren F1 Successor to debut in late 2012 or early 2013!

Thank you god for finally getting a brilliant car. The F1 was and to date, is, the best supercar ever designed and built. I only wonder if the sequel can actually better the previous one. I really hope so. No, I cannot afford one, but it will be such an awesome thrill to still see it out there

Same thoughts as pganapathy! Veyron and Aventador might be best supercars today but I still call them inferior to the 1994 legend F1.

Googling gets me the following extra news-
  1. While McLaren P12 will be unveiled at the Monaco GP this year, its sale will commence from 2014 (exactly 20 years after the legendary F1).
  2. Unlike F1, it will have two-seat configuration.
  3. It will have "dramatic styling" (whatever it means). It will be designed by Frank Stephenson, whose other works include the new MINI, the Maserati MC12, Ferrari F430, the McLaren MP4-12C and the Maserati Quattroporte.
  4. Engine comes from MP4-12C. The same 3.8 liter twin-turbo V8.
  5. Top speed expected to be 416kph.
  6. Weight 1,140kg which is over 600kg lighter than Veyron (didn't research which Veyron though).
  7. Expected price $ 1.56 million dollars.
  8. Google images is full of silly renderings of the expected P12. Don't believe any of them.

Anyone remember that McLaren F1 supposedly had a successor - Mercedes Benz SLR McLaren?

SLR McLaren is a joke compared to the lengendary F1!

McL F1 Successor prototype spotted for the first time!!

Our spies have managed to grab a few shots of a McLaren prototype while it took a short testing drive out in the open. The body is being kept under cover by a thick layer of camouflage so there is clearly something the engineers don't want us to see. However one element that can't be hidden or ignored is the massive exhaust that is centrally located on the rear end.

The model is currently only known by its P12 codename. We can be pretty sure it won't take on the F1 label as its predecessor.

Under the shell is an updated version of the MP4-12C's carbon-fiber chassis made from a combination of carbon fiber, titanium, and magnesium that will keep weight down to a minimum. Power is expected to be generated from a significantly updated version of McLaren's 3.8-liter V-8 and will be be backed up with the Formula 1 derived kinetic energy recovery system (KERS).

Total output is still open to speculation but we should expect somewhere in the region of 900hp (671kW/913PS) if it is to challenge the performance of rivals such as the Bugatti Veyron.

Some are reporting that McLaren are still a couple of years away from showing the P12 to the world. But WCF sources have informed us that the model will in fact be shown privately later this year before a world public debut at the Geneva Motor Show next year. Incredibly, that is the same show that the long anticipated Ferrari Enzo successor is rumored to be unveiled at, giving auto fans all over the world an amazing battle for supremacy.
