The press release says "The concept car offers a glimpse of the brand's sixth model line."

I guess they are taking about a new sixth model line... Currently they have 5 product lines:

1. Fabia, 2. Roomster, 3. Octavia (Laura), 4. Yeti, 5. Superb.

IMO they are planning to fill a gap between Fabia and Octavia with this 6th product line. To me the pictured MissionL vehicle looks a size smaller than Laura.

According to Autocar The new model will fill the large gap between the Fabia and Octavia (Laura in India) in Skoda’s current range. This five-door hatchback-cum-saloon is described by Skoda as a compact liftback (notchback). The car will be sold in Europe, Russia and China, with a separate four-door version for India on sale too. Each market will get its own regionalised version of the car So according to be this is what is going to be in other markets, but in india the car will be based on vento so itll be different.

^^ Rightly so! In fact, I don't know why the title still mentions 'Octavia' even after @anshuman has clarified earlier that the Rapid(Lauretta) isn't the next Octy! Perhaps a correction in the thread title, and a new thread to discuss Mission L is in order (though IMO it looks a size smaller than Jetta/Laura/Octavia).

The Mission L just seems to be the new design language being tested by Skoda. Production and testing scoops of the Rapid have already appeared, and they dont seem to carry this language, or the new badge! Skoda seems to be a bit un-settled on this concept. A comparison with the earlier Vision D shows that the only difference is the way the notch scoops down - the alloys, the door handles, head and tail lights are all just the same.

Another copy paste job from VW and Audi. It makes great sense ad results in large savings for the ompany. But what about the customers? Aren't they cheated?

Apparently, based on Autoblog, this is being launched first in India, by the end of 2011. Interesting!

The automaker plans to launch its MissionL first in India, with units arriving there by the end of 2011. Guys Breaking news..! The MissionL concept is the one which is being launched in India in Oct 2011 ! The one which Skoda was planning to call Lauretta and now is changing the name again.
There is confirmed news of this from a press release by Skoda during the Frankfurt motor show.

Umm, looks kind of boxy from the front. Is it just me or the front resembles the current gen Lancer sold in India?
Overall looks decent, quite neutral actually.

Autblog says 'The Skoda MissionL is expected to slot in the lineup between the Fabia and the Octavia' and expected to launch in India in 2011.....THEREFORE this is the VW Vento equivalant, the mysterious unnamed 'Mission L'. Now whether this is gonna have the Fabia nose or this new nose is still open to debate

Skoda's Concept looks more realistic, ready to roll on the road in a year.

Unlike the concept cars of other companies, which take around 5-7 years to realise in the market..

After reading and re-reading the confusing Press release from Skoda, it seems that the Mission L seems more like a global mission of launching a car to slot between the Fabia and the Octavia (Laura) and not a particular model. So the Mission L for India was (most probably) the Rapid and may be different for the other countries. Shame that they didn't follow this design language. But I guess this will lead to a much cooler looking next-gen Octavia (Laura).
