Jeep'ing in Oman

Mid life crisis, a beer belly... long hours at work was enough for me. I decided to add a bit of zing to my life. I was debating the possible options with my wife, to add the zing to my life;

1. have an affair in office with somebody of the opposite sex

2. Buy the Gurkha

No guesses, my wife willing came with me to Vashi and we Test Drove three Gurkha's.

That's when I started getting a bit greedy and wanted to wait for the CRDe engine... the rest is history, next long wait was for the Thar.

In the mean time, I decided to move back to the Middle East (Oman). After completing my double doctorate in Driving, I was finally blessed with a Driving license in Jan this year and yes after that the Jeep bug finally got to see some blood.

Jeep'ing in Oman

Sultanate of Oman as the country is called is known for its picturesque beauty. I am based out of Muscat, which also happens to be the capital of Oman.

Just for your information, Oman ha strong cultural ties with India, infact there are some Omani tribes who still have ancestral properties back in India.

I am trying to do my bit, showing you fine people what this beautiful country can offer, being a ameatur photographer I also want my skills to be critiqued.

Hey not to worry, now 9W, IC and now 6E fly to Oman for less tha 15K INR.

For one after lurking on TBHP for the past donkey's years, I will admit .. I hated most of those suspense stories wherein the next post was after a few hrs or days.

So will not claim that I am tired or leave the thread abrupt, next post will is on my drive to the mountains.

No write up, but will share a few pics for you all.

Re: Jeep'ing in Oman

The route which we took, .. please can somebody tell me how to add text before and or after the pics..

I am sure most of us Indians who have driven in the rural areas will not find this route challenging, but what the heck .. when in Oman enjoy it.

Re: Jeep'ing in Oman

Good start Shivshankar, I am hoping to see some familiar places through your thread I lived in Ruwi 2001-2005 and used to venture out on weekends for deep sea fishing with office mates. If someone can enjoy the heat, trekking, off-roading, boating, fishing etc. Oman is the best place to be in. We came back for some family needs hoping to go back, but later changed our mind to settle here. Lot of family members are still there, hopefully need to visit them once in 2012.

All the best with your jeepin. I have been to Muscat a couple of times and was amazed by the beauty of the terrain out there. You get a birds view when landing from over the sea. Have a great time.

Shivshanker! Really beautiful pics. Having spend close to 8 years in Oman (Ibri, to be more specific), I must say, the natural beauty of this country is amazing to say the least. An off-roadies paradise :-)

Keep us posted!

Re: Jeep'ing in Oman

Hi Nice to see Oman in photos. There is some Jeep club in Muscat who go for weekend (3 days) desert drives. You have to have a Jeep & pay them some amount; everything incl food/camps are arranged.

I don't know much details but my friend working in "The Chedi" gave me the info.

Maybe Zubair Auto guys will know.

Re: Jeep'ing in Oman

. .thanks guys

@Skyline GT-R, yes this is the guide oman they organize the trip for like minded people to the desert. The beauty of theis groups is that except for the two organisers all the support staff people are volunteers.

My next post will be on my recent trip to the desert. Check out my FB or Guide oman Pages on FB.

I too have done a trip at the Sharkiya Sands under the umbrella of 'Guide Oman', the only difference being all vehicles were NISSAN XTERRAs. One Patrol was used as a back up.
