re: Daimler to scrap its Maybach brand

Mercedes has ceased Maybach production; small numbers of new models available in group stock.

Quote:
The final Maybach was built in June, and "very small numbers" remain available in group stock. That means although new Maybachs are available, there is no flexibility on specification. The spokesman confirmed Mercedes will continue to support existing owners and cars.

re: Daimler to scrap its Maybach brand

I would blame the marketing strategy. I have never so far seen even one Maybach on indian roads. I have a least seen a few Rolls-royce and Bentlys.

IF the marketing strategy was industry leading, Maybach could have survived.

re: Daimler to scrap its Maybach brand

The Maybach did not look that unique. If you see a RR or Bentley, they look imposing and dont look like any of their owner's cars (BMW or VW).

re: Daimler to scrap its Maybach brand

Problem with the Maybach is people found more value in an S-Class, that costs 1/5th the price! What it was, was a glorified S in the eye of the general public. When you spend that kind of money, you'd rather get a Rolls. Or a chopper. Or a 3000sq plot in Jayamahal, Bangalore.

re: Daimler to scrap its Maybach brand

I remember seeing several Maybachs lined up for repair at the Mercedes Benz World in Weybridge, Surrey UK which was supposedly one of the few specialised / dedicated Maybach service centres in the world. Several Maybachs lying in various corners of the place, gathering dust as they were awaiting parts!!

And this was happening in what was probably one of the most important Sales and Service outlets of Mercedes - it's not a dealership, it is owned and managed by Mercedes themselves!

Imagine if you were a Maybach customer and your Maybach was lying gathering dust in a company owned A.S.S!! And that after having been dished out marketing spiel that you would have a dedicated service person to handle all your service needs!!

It's a situation that foretold the end of the brand well before it happened.

Maybach Nameplate Rumored to Return on Extra-Long Mercedes S-Class.

Although Daimler decided to bring the curtain down on Maybach last year, a recent report claims there’s a “high probability” the luxury brand will return to name one of the long wheelbase versions of the 2014 Mercedes-Benz S-Class.

Quote:
To make things less confusing, the all-new S-Class is scheduled to gain two long wheelbase version, casually known as the “extra-long wheelbase” and the “Pullman”

Re: Daimler to scrap its Maybach brand

I remember seeing a review of the Mayback 62 in Overdrive back in 2004. Even as an 8 year old, I just wasn't impressed by it. It just didn't seem to be as elegant as an RR or a Bentley. No wonder Maybach's main clientèle have been rappers like Rick Ross. :/

Re: Daimler to scrap its Maybach brand

Mercedes is bringing back the Maybach marque " amidst its dramatic expansion beginning next year", as the news report says:
