They didnt have a wagon but they did have the hatch version of the Optra, the SRV that flopped !!

Skoda attempted to sell the Octavia wagon that failed miserably.

Well GM in its previous avatar Opel had Corsa Sail. That was a station wagon. This Cruze though looks amazing! If positioned correctly this one may have immense potential.

Looks awesome, the stance is very sporty, although its a wagon it hides it with its stance. Hopefully Chevy will launch it in India, only catch is all earlier attempts to have a wagon in India have been a market failure, e.g. Baleno Altura, Corsa Sail not sure if there were more.

SRV flopped because of abnormal pricing for a hatch. Same what happened to Jazz few years ago.

I guess if this is to be launched in India, pricing does matter, any idea on the tech spec's and features that might be loaded into this beast

Previous stations failed mainly due to pricing and design issues, but this one looks neat on design, pricing will be important for our market.

The Opel station wagon was named as Opel Swing. Sail was the hatchback version and corsa the sedan.

Was that actually a hatch-like design? I never thought it was a hatch, neither did they position SRV as a hatch. Wasn't a station wagon either. SRV, if I remember correctly, had much more features on the inside compared to Optra/Aveo, was definitely priced more than Aveo, if not Optra as well, and was designed in Italy.

Yes, there were more like Skoda Octavia Combi that too failed. IMO, the only wagon that had some success in India was that based on Ambasssador. This one from Chevy looks good, but that alone will not ensure sales in India as the Skoda Combi was also quite good looking.

OT : SRV was launched way before the market was ready for premium hatches. But its still the best looking hatch to have ever graced Indian roads.

Plonk the 120 bhp motor from the Magnum , price it at 7 lakhs OTR and watch it flood the market
