Official Press Release :-

Quote:
Mitsubishi Motors to début the all-new Outlander at the 2012 Geneva International Motor Show

Mitsubishi Motors Corporation (MMC) will present the global début of the all-new Outlander at the 82nd Geneva International Motor Show - which runs from 6 March through to 18 March 2012*. The new-generation Outlander was built to be eco-friendly and it accomplishes this with fuel efficiency and CO2 emission levels that are among the best in its class. Also on display on the Mitsubishi Motors stand in a line up of 13 models (eight on the first Press Day) will be the MiEV House, a model for a near-future "EV (electric vehicle) lifestyle" that maximises household energy usage with the help of an EV, as well as the fast-selling ASX and other models currently on sale in Europe.

*For general show information, please visit 82nd International Motor Show, Palexpo, 8th to 18th March 2012. World premieres in car industry, international car exposition (English)

In addition to its fuel efficiency and CO2 emission levels, other features distinguishing the new Outlander include enhanced levels of safety from the adoption of advanced safety technologies and a user-friendly interior that reflects pure quality.

The new Outlander will be launched first in Russia this summer, after which it will be introduced in European, Japanese, Oceania, Chinese and North American markets.

During fiscal 2012 Mitsubishi Motors will also be adding to its line up an EV-based Outlander model which will use a plug-in hybrid system derived from MMC's exciting EV technology.

The all-new Outlander

New Outlander Product Features

Outstanding environmental performance with fuel consumption and CO2 emission levels that are among the best in its class.

The European-market specification Outlander is offered with a choice of gasoline and diesel engines. Gasoline models are powered by the 4J11 2.0-litre in-line 4-cylinder SOHC MIVEC* engine which employs an all-new valve train. Diesel models use the 4N14 2.2-litre in-line 4-cylinder turbo charged MIVEC engine, with a very low compression ratio of 14.9:1, which meets stringent European diesel emission regulations.

The diesel Outlander (2WD drive train, 4N14 engine with 6-speed manual transmission) will provide a superior level of environmental performance, with target CO2 emissions of under 130g2/km*, thanks to MMC's "Auto Stop&Go" idle-stop system and its lighter body weight from the optimisation of the body structure, the use of high-tensile strength panelling and improved aerodynamics. Furthermore the new Outlander will be equipped with an 'eco-friendly driving system" that notifies the driver when they are driving at maximum efficiency.

*1: Mitsubishi Innovative Valve timing Electronic Control system (name for engines fitted with Mitsubishi Motors' variable valve timing system).

*2: Target for European model that is subject to final homologation. Models for other countries may differ according to local homologation.

Enhanced levels of safety borne from advanced safety technologies

The new Outlander offers outstanding safety through the use of the following advanced safety technologies:

FCM (Forward Collision Mitigation System): Detects obstacles on the road ahead of the car and automatically applies the brakes to prevent a collision.

ACC (Adaptive Cruise Control System): Operates to maintain a safe distance between the car in front even at very low speeds experienced in heavy traffic congestion.

LDW (Lane Departure Warning System): Functions to warn the driver that their vehicle is about to depart from its lane

High-quality, user-friendly interior

The new Outlander's interior expresses quality with the use of a glossy black instrument panel, switches decorated with silver accents and soft-touch dashboard trim material. The new Outlander also features easily-operable steering wheel controls together with high-resolution and easy-to-read instrument displays.

The comfortable second- and third-row seats can be easily configured to provide a number of seating patterns and also a long luggage space with a flat floor.

A power-operated tailgate facilitates loading and unloading.

why cant they make it as a mini pajero and leave the EVO outlander untouched. I love the EVO grill, why do had to get rid of it to make it just an another crossover.

Re: The 2013 Mitsubishi Outlander revealed!

Its a shame, as i do not see any India plans on the site. Outlander is a wonderful SUV almost killed in India because of Petrol only option available, otherwise a wonderful car.

I really do not understand this half hearted approach in India. There was also a news of New Outlander with three rows of seating coming to India, what happened to that.

Neither HM nor Mitsubishi are in a position to bring in any new models; they just surviving. Mitsubishi hasn't shown any commitment to the Indian market from its inception. They make do with old Lancer Pajero, their Cedia is a damp squib. A splattering of so called prohibitively priced 'flagships', shows total lack of commitment to the market and the market also had responded in kind. One company that can go 'belly up' anytime. So don't have high hopes.

If they dont have a diesel available in their global line-up, then they will not develop one specially for India. Not for the numbers they will sell here.

Re: The 2013 Mitsubishi Outlander revealed!

What an ugly looking car.
The current EVOish looking outlander looks so much better.
Honestly, whats with all the Auto makers these days ? None of them are coming out with good looking cars anymore.
The japanese seem to have lost it completely whereas the germans seem to be short of ideas.
The new Jetta/Passat look bigger versions of the Vento or vice-versa.
The current Civic is aggressive looking, new one looks like a bigger ANHC or a smaller Accord.
The new Camry looks like a bigger Altis.
The Nissan Sunny looks like a variant of Dzire and looks so bulky.
In my opinion, the OHC Type II was the best looking City ever!
Anyway coming back to the topic, I have lost all hope with Mitsu In India. As long as they are tied with HM,there is no hope at all.
A very good company hampered by a lethargic partner. I am surprised as to when these guys will realize that to survive in India with healthy sales, you CANNOT do without a Diesel.
Looking at way things are going currently,I don't see diesel variant being launched by Mitsu here.

Err... did some former Mitsubishi Galant designer come in and design this new outlander? One look at the grill and I see galant. At the sides and rear it gets confusing though

Re: The 2013 Mitsubishi Outlander revealed!

Mitsubishi will change their entire lineup in 2013 worldwide. All the models are expected to be launched before the end of 2012, except Pajero/Montero which will be launched in Q1/Q2 2013. This may not be applicable to India, thanks to HM.

The 4J11 engine in the new generation Mitsubishi vehicles will be SOHC 16 valve, equipped with MIVEC, lighter than the current 4B11 and more fuel efficient.

Re: The 2013 Mitsubishi Outlander revealed!

hmmm, Existing model was far better looking than this "Duster" looking one.

Wish something radically changes in the management level to bring on some life like it happened to Yamaha in the bike segment.

No. of posts here speaks of People's interest in HM & Mitsu.

Re: The 2013 Mitsubishi Outlander revealed!

Agree that the current one looks way better than the new one.

Another thing I do not understand about Mitsubishi is why, in India, do they have only one fuel variant per model, excepting Lancer, of course. Cedia has only petrol, pajero only diesel, Outlander only petrol...

There are many things that Mitsu needs to rectify for the Indian market to get their gems to rightful owners - the enthusiasts and the quality conscious. Will the day ever come when Mitsu will start taking India seriously?

Re: The 2013 Mitsubishi Outlander revealed!

Mitsubishi is in trouble. They are going to withdraw production in Europe by the end of 2012.

But that is no excuse for the shoddy design of the new Outlander. Both models side by side, who in their right mind will pick the new one? FE & CO2 emission is not all. Cars need to be desirable.

Re: The 2013 Mitsubishi Outlander revealed!

YUCK! And a big one! IMO the current Outlander is one of the most appealing softroaders available.
And in India, it's high time Mitsubishi India played it independently, and parted ways with HM.
Or better still, let's hope Mitsubishi remains partners with HM, and do not upgrade Outlander for next x years, or keep selling 2013 and the existing under 2 brand names
