Just picked this off MotorAuthority. The legendary American muscle car Mustang may sport a new face from its 50th anniversary edition 2015 onwards. .

There is speculation that the Mustang will also inherit an eco-boost turbo charged 4 cylinder engine along side the usual V8.

The Mustang has been the bedroom poster and the fantasy of million of guys like me !

Moreover this design comes nowhere near to the Legendary Mustang design :(
Instead it looks freakishly similar to the X6 ?

Found this in "Drive AU".
2015 Mustang will have the smallest displacement engine in its history, a 2L ecoboost along with a 3.7L V6 and the regular 5L V8.

Will have new underpinnings and independent rear suspension to replace live rear axle.

The design looks good overall, but don't like an icon loosing its signature style.

I guess Ford has hired the design team who used to work for Aston Martin.

Frankly looks like a Phony car to me rather than a Pony car.As you said does not have the classic mustang look except for the badge no would be able to tell whether it's a Mustang.I hope Ford does not go and put this in production.

While on the subject of 2015 Mustangs and a quiet obvious fact that most mustang fans will not like the proposed look ( personal opinion extended to general public) Here's some info about the 2014 Mustang as shown by mustangsdaily.com

Dont see any good reason for Ford to depart from the Mustang's iconic styling, the proposed styling looks too futuristic for my taste, its blasphemy I say for an entire generation raised on and inspired by this iconic car

Thats pretty close to the CLA AMG engine that Mercedes is boasting around for being the most powerful 4 pot. Mustangs sell in volumes and this engine means business for Ford.

It sure is powerful with those numbers.

But the Americans like big engines it will be interesting to see how the 4 potter is accepted.

Also the hint can be that there is speculation that this generation of Mustang will be produced in RHD versions too, may be thats one of the reasons (the rest being environmental reasons & downsizing trend) they have introduced a 4 potter ECOBOOST and the Mustang might finally be introduced in India & other emerging markets

Trend is changing with Americans these days with fuel prices at all time high. Ford fusion with Ecoboost is a success in US. I see Fusion's everywhere these days. My home builder who had a Ford F-150 V8 (the usual truck with all construction crew) bought a new F150 Ecoboost V6 and he's pretty happy with that. It has the same or more towing capacity and better mileage. BMW, Mercedes and Audi all have 4 pots since this year and they are selling good.

I am not looking forward to the new Mustang one bit. It's like the exact opposite of the feeling I had when the current camaro concept was unveiled. The current one looks perfect in every way.
My heart dropped when I saw the rendered images of how the new car looks.
Took a couple of pics of all 3 Mustang variants on sale this February in the Ford showroom in Kuwait. Such a beautiful car this.

^ That's great news for India and Indian auto enthusiasts who were not able to import the Muscle car as only LHD versions were made till now.

What's with these narrow slits for headlights?? First it was the jeep and now this.
These days every new face either has the Audi like gaping chin or these thin lights or both.
Iconic cars like Mustang might do well to honor their heritage by deriving their current looks from their roots, instead of moving further away from them.
