Re: All new Toyota Corolla Axio launched in Japan

Looks more like a relaunch of a 1980s model.

What was toyota designers thinking while sketching the car?

Re: All new Toyota Corolla Axio launched in Japan

Well this is relevant for us in India as its the car the Corolla will be based on and the interiors will basically be exactly what we see here.

I really find the interior even blander than the Altis ! It looks more MPV with the way the dash ends halfway to the floor in the center.
Expect the side profile of the car to remain intact when this is turned into the Altis. There will be a new nose and tail section.

i would rather like this to be the facelift for the Etios than the Corolla.
In India, the Corolla comes as a entry premium and there is nothing that makes the looks feel premium for 1 million rupee car.

Re: All new Toyota Corolla Axio launched in Japan

The Altis is so much better when compared to this. Even the previous generation looked better on the inside. What were the Toyota designers thinking when they drew the odd concave dash on the passenger side? Crazy!!!

1.3 and 1.5 litre engines?¿? Guess there was some serious communication error among the design and technical team on which car was bring defined.

Instead of taking advantage of the stupid CIVIC design, Toyota have joined them and made an average looking car even worse.

This is retro, the 1980's wants its Toyota back! Seriously one worries for both Toyota and Honda. Both are making seriously uninteresting cars, these don't excite or inspire, just another 4 wheels to take the mid-level executive home.

How Boring !!!! Honda went a step back while designing the Next Gen Civic and Toyota has taken more steps back with this ! Hyundai must be laughing all the way to their bank.

Re: All new Toyota Corolla Axio launched in Japan

The jazzed up front looks quiet boring, neither its looking a mature executive class sedan (like the current one) nor its its giving a fun kid look. Somewhere in between, a half hearted approach i must say.

I also see a shade of American design influence, the front makes you believe that its actually a bigger car then it really is.

Re: All new Toyota Corolla Axio launched in Japan

This change is more bad than good. And what about the engines? 1.3/1.5 for such a big car!! It would be completely under powered if they don't provide the turbo.

Exteriors and Interiors both are boring and look like old brother of Etios!

Re: All new Toyota Corolla Axio launched in Japan

I see Pajero Sports' grille and headlights on the front and Honda Civic 2012's taillights on the back! Are we really getting this? Definitely wouldn't call it boring, but the word "quirky" comes to my mind.

Re: All new Toyota Corolla Axio launched in Japan

The front looks nice but the rear is simply yuck. And the interiors, its so 1980ish.

I hope they dont bring this car to Indian shores.

Re: All new Toyota Corolla Axio launched in Japan

Smaller engines are for Japan only. In India, it will be offered with the 1.8 liter.

I dont expect our front end design to be similar either.

I would suggest people focus on changes made to overall dimensions, interior roominess, safety, suspension and powertrain.

Re: All new Toyota Corolla Axio launched in Japan

Either the design of this car is based purely on economics or the Toyota design team has still not recovered yet from the tsunami and its aftermath. IMO they would have assessed possible owner perspective feedback from some select markets and designed the car as per those cues. Who knows, perhaps it is going to be a huge hit in China, Vietnam etc. Let us hope the Toyota guys are not fools...

Yuck ! the designs are getting very Korean & retro ..
( OTOH, the Koreans are getting better at their own styling & designs.)
