There will 100% be a petrol engine for india. Now the demand is for diesel and when the subsidy is removed for diesel, expect the cost of diesel to be on par/little below petrol.

The Chevrolet Trax mini-SUV will make its global debut at the Paris Motor Show next month. No confirmation, but GM sources say likely for India end 2013!

The Trax is 4.2 metres long, and has the following engine options :
Petrol - 1.4L turbo, 1.6L.
Diesel - 1.7L

The 1.4 and 1.7 models will have optional 6 Speed Automatic Transmission.

Doesn't look bumped/pimped up as the ES(*IMO), although the ES has an edge in FE. But owners willing to have true pulling power consider the 1.7T VCDi Diesel. The grill kinda looks like the one on Mazda Shinari Concept(or on the CX5). The design lines are a bit polarizing as the Beat so, will take some time to get used to.

IMO, Chevy must have bought the Sonic here instead of the Sail. It would have been easier to get this Sonic based Crossover then. But considering Sail is a cash cow for at least another 5 years, it might be the logical step for the company.

When it does come to India (Assuming it eventually will), I hope we get the 1.4T and the 1.7 VCDi as engine options. Both these engines will be awesome fun to drive. Although I'm pretty confident that if they do plan on getting a petrol engine here, it will be the NA 1.6, which will be used to advertise their lowest priced version. Think Renault Duster.

But the 1.7 diesel will have great pulling power and should do nicely. I Just hope they price it right.

It works out cheaper than a physical speedo. A very good fit for low cost cars in particular. And while you may not like it there are many who still figure this as a novelty. So they kill two birds with one stone.

This looks like a very good compact SUV and a fitting alternate to Ecosport. If at all it is going to be launched in India in 2013 as speculated, i am wondering why not much discussion is happening on this SUV.

They have a 1.7VCDi in the EU market. But I suppose they might end up plonking the National Engine.

If we had the Sonic Twins the 1.7 might have been possible.

Looking at the dimensions, the term Small SUV is more applicable to the international market, but is pretty much the regular SUV in India. Both in terms of dimensions & power specs. So this would be more in the 17L segment ?

I think so too. One cant trust GM to get their pricing right. The new captiva came in with a hike of over 3 lakhs. I do not expect this to be anywhere near the "expected" Ecosport pricing, but more in the XUV, Storme, Duster territory.

Maybe this is their answer to the Duster and not the Ecosport.

IMO it looks like a baby Captiva from most of the angles, which makes it quite a looker
