UK based construction-equipment maker JCB intends to break a land-speed record: a specially-built aerodynamic racer, featuring two 750 bhp JCB444 diesel engines - one for each set of wheels - will take part in high-speed runs at the Bonneville Salt Flats in USA in August 2006.

So that means 1500 bhp in a long fuselage shaped racer weighing less than 500 kgs. They aim to cross 300 mph in that monster. Looks like some stiff competition for gasoline based engines.
Also Audi with its R10 racer having a diesel powered V12 aims to win the LeMans 24 hours this season.
Awesome!!! This is going to be intersting.

Highly unlikely - that TWO of those engines and the car all together will weigh less than 500 Kgs!! Hell - Thats more efficient than Formula 1!!! ... And we ARE talking diesel engines here!

Hmm...interesting...but nothing more interesting than the twin jet powered Thrust SSC(powered by a pair of Rolls-Royce Spey 202 jet engines from a Phantom fighter producing 50,000 pounds of thrust and 110,000 horsepower) which went supersonic and did a 766mph run!!! HUH!!! Now thats what I call SPEEEEDclap:

It was all over the news sometime in 1997.
"JCB DIESELMAX today became the world's fastest diesel-powered car, as Andy Green set a new FIA international record of 328.767 mph (529.099 kph) on the Bonneville Salt Flats..."
