Every year, automotive journalists from all over the globe select the best cars in the world. The panel gives awards in four categories, which include World Car of the Year, World Performance Car, World Car Design of the Year and World Green Car.
Out of the total 66 jurors, there were four journalists from India - Renuka Kirpalani, Siddharth Vinayak, Patankar, Yogendra Pratrap and Hormazd Sorabjee.

VW Golf GTI Mk7 prices announced.

For the first time in the GTI's history, it is being offered with two power outputs.
The standard Golf GTI costs £25,845, just £195 more than the outgoing Golf Mk6 GTI. It's powered by a 2.0-litre turbocharged engine with 217bhp and 258lb ft of torque.
The GTI Performance model costs £980 over the regular car. It offers a power increase to 227bhp, larger brakes and a limited-slip differential.

That diff on the new Golf GTI is just epic!

but, I have always felt that a Golf GTI or similar hot hatch is the perfect car for everyday use. Practical, fun to drive, fast, (relatively) economic and not too expensive considering what one gets for the price. Driven by a good driver, these things would probably be able to keep up with Z4s and Boxsters and such on normal roads.
I really hope car companies launch the new Golf GTI and its peers in India soon seeing how Mercedes and BMW are starting to launch their hatchbacks as well.

Golf was one of my favourite cars (NFSU2 ) and after that i began loving everything about it. From what i have read, the car is very mod friendly and can become quite a tarmac muncher when fully tuned can go upto 500 bhp! Great car and it makes me happy to see it get the recognition it deserves.

VW builds 30-millionth Golf!

Volkswagen has officially built 30 million Golf units since the first hatch rolled off the assembly line in early 1974. The company says the accomplishment has cemented the compact's place as the most successful European car ever built.

What a brilliant car the new Golf GTI is! Glad to know it has a very supple suspension. I like sporty cars with a supple suspension. Why should it be all hard and uncomfortable? Love those seats as well.

The GTI , the GTD all looks gorgeous ,I was always fascinated by the Golf R32 in DXB .
The golf MK7 looks plain but elegant and clean .
I hope if not the Golf we get atleast a good package when our Polo GTD is launched .

Volkswagen Teases New Golf 7 R, Says It Has 300 HP



Just revealed by the German automaker ahead of the Frankfurt debut, the new R is nothing short of mind-blowing.

The slowest Golf 7 gets to 100 km/h in about 12 seconds. So, you want to know how much it take the fastest Golf ever to reach the same speed? 4.9 seconds.

Rumored to have an Audi engine, the 2.0 TFSI TSI engine fitted to the new Golf R has exactly the same 300 PS and 280 lb-ft (380 Nm) as the new S3 family. It's also got all-wheel drive, the same platform and two gearbox choices. So it's not surprising that the Golf R's performance is the same as the S3's.

With a manual gearbox (standard), the new R will get to 100 km/h in 5.3 seconds. That's still faster than the old model's 5.7 seconds. However, you can't row the gears as fast as the optionally available DSG6 box, which drops another 0.4 second off the time to get you that magic 4.9-second time.

The 2014 Golf R comes with standard 18-inch wheels (19s available), larger brakes, 20mm lower suspension over the standard car (5mm over the GTI), a new body kit and adaptive chassis control as an option.

Volkswagen Golf Named Car of the Year in Japan.

After the seventh generation Golf was launched in 2012, it was named the European Car of the Year and World Car of the Year. Now, the new Golf can add another title: Car of the Year Japan

The Golf received 504 points from 60 members of a jury, which placed it ahead of Honda's new Jazz/Fit subcompact, which received 373 votes. In third place came the Volvo V40 with 167 votes.
