If these leaked patent filings are to be believed, Chinese demand have coaxed Jaguar to stretch the XJ into a full-fledged limousine. In the process, she loses more than half of her elegance, her swoopy profile and is probably just a good looking hearse now.

GTSpirit reports:

According to Chinese automotive site, CarNewsChina, Jaguar is planning a special, China-only XJ which will be significantly longer than the XJ offered to the rest of the world.

The current generation Jaguar XJ isn’t a short car by any stretch of the imagination. But, if these leaked renders are to be believed, China will be seeing a Jaguar XJ variant bordering on limo levels of length. While Jaguar has not left official comment on the story, rumors have long circulated around Jaguar bringing a longer wheelbase model to the Chinese market.

And if other reports are to be believed, the Chinese customer is very discerning when it comes to legroom, as seen in these XJ renders. With the added length comes styling tweaks. The roof-line has been extended and heightened in order to make room for a bigger,stronger B-pillar. The rear three quarters has also been restyled in an effort to retain the original XJ styling in light of the extended body.

While these renders may be nothing more than rumor, we will keep you updated as this story develops.

I honestly don't think that this will amount to anything more than a rumour. At best, they *may* make a special, marginally extended wheel base version for the Chinese market, like many other makers do.

If this what they want then fine, why not? We Indians want a boot on the back of all our favourite hatch and the Govt. wants us to keep it below 4m as well, so we too do get a lot of designs out here that don't really conform to the best design practice.

I believe the same is also sold in India. The LWB is the only option in this segment of cars.

BTW, no Limousine looks great. Practically you introduce a big hollow cuboid in the middle of the beautiful design, in any car. You can't blame the chinese alone! It is the whole concept to blame.

The Chinese demand L versions of everything. There are 3 series long wheelbase versions sold in China! Instead, why couldn't they just buy a 5 series? Each market has its own quirks, and for the Chinese, it is the fancy with wheelbase!

The Chinese L version 5 series is so long that it looked almost like a 7 series to me, the 3 lwb already looks like a swb 5

I was wondering, these L versions might work well with status savvy Indian customers.

I think there can be no such thing as "best design practice".

Designers and Designs are meant to serve what the market place wants in the best manner possible and this is what the "Cut Short" designs of India and the Longer wheelbase designs of China are attempting to do - simply serving an articulated market need...

That looks like either a photoshopped version or handiwork of some Chinese DC

Jaguar will not alter the basic design of the car to such a ghastly looking design. Notice the C pillar is totally different from the regular XJ design. Jaguar sells the LWB version regularly and even an armored version with the same length. The British PM also uses one as his official car.

The XJ is one of the most beautiful cars, and if this is true, they have just completely and utterly ruined it!
