Jaguar's Project 7 concept will make a dynamic debut at the 2013 Goodwood Festival of Speed on 12th July. Project 7 is based on Jaguar's acclaimed F-TYPE, its all-new, two-seater, convertible sports car and winner of the World Car Design of the Year 2013 award.

Key exterior design changes include a fairing behind the driver's head; bespoke carbon-fibre components - a new front splitter, side skirts and rear diffuser; lowered windshield and restyled front bumper. Project 7's unique interior features a composite single-seat with racing harness, a helmet holder and custom trim. Project 7's name acknowledges Jaguar's winning of Le Mans seven times between 1951-1990 - a record for a British manufacturer - and its blue paintwork is reminiscent of the victorious Jaguar D-types of 1956/1957.

Project 7 is not a static concept, but a fully-functional, high-performance sports car. The F-TYPE's rigid all-aluminium architecture provides the perfect starting point, power coming from Jaguar's 5.0-litre supercharged V8 engine in 550PS/680Nm form - an increase of 55PS and 55Nm over the F-TYPE V8 S.

She sounds barking mad, but still doesn't hold a candle to the original D Type, except when viewed from the top. Below the waist, the generic F-Type elements spoil the party, although the bodywork on display here might actually find its way to the upcoming F-Type RS.

These new-age Jags are just so beautiful, be it the XF, XJ or the F-Type; all look space-age and in the looks department nothing is close to them (except a Maserati )

Just when we thought the F-Type couldn't look any more gorgeous, look what Jag has put together for the Goodwood Festival of Speed. The Project 7 is inspired by the legendary D-Type.

This car has shot straight up my list of my all time favorite cars. This is just what I'd call car porn.

Created in just four months, the car is based on the F-Type and features a D-type inspired rear fairing with an integrated rollover hoop. The model has also been equipped with a new front bumper, an enlarged grille and a variety of carbon fiber components. There's also a rear wing and 20-inch alloy wheels with Pirelli P Zero tires.

The cabin is elegantly appointed with diamond-quilted leather upholstery, carbon fiber trim and a composite racing seat that has a four-point harness. The passenger seat has also been replaced by a bespoke helmet holder that secures a matching Project 7 helmet.

Motivation is provided by a supercharged 5.0-liter V8 engine that produces 550 HP (405 kW) and 680 Nm (502 lb-ft) of torque. It is connected to an eight-speed Quickshift transmission which enables the model to accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 4.2 seconds and hit an electronically-limited top speed of 300 km/h (186 mph).

The Project 7 also has a sports-tuned suspension, an electronic rear differential and a free-flowing exhaust that sounds downright menacing.

This car is just gorgeous, and Jaguar has really paid attention to detail on it. Really love the design, and man that supercharged V8 roar is to die for! Awesome work Jaguar, the F Type is certainly a winner, and this is like a cherry on the top

Autocar UK test drive the Project 7;

Jaguar's Project 7 isn’t so much about the car itself. It’s about a group of people having a wild time in a studio, and asking: “What can we do to an F-type that makes it more exciting?”

The result is a car that makes you feel good about it – and the company that makes it. And you can’t ask for much more than that.
