43rd Tokyo Motor Show
Date - 23/11/2013
All of us petrolheads would agree, there is a strong correlation between us and the cars. For that matter anything to do with cars. Not only the petrolheads, in fact it is a universal phenomena with all men. Ditto goes with electronics gadgets. It is a different thing that my wife overheard my worried conversation with my friend when I was coming to Tokyo on a 3 months assignment. She was annoyed but I can't help telling the facts to my friend that - I am worried, not because I am leaving her alone for 3 months but because I feel, my wife can take care of herself but my car needs me. Anyway, women can't just help getting envious seeing the love of ours with our machines. We can't help much either.
Be it a Motor show or an electronics fair, men has to be at their presence best in both of these to prove yet again - cars, electronics goods and motor shows are as significant to us as Buffet dinners are for Bappi Lahari.
So when you are around a place and there happens to be an international motor show, could you just miss it? Perhaps not even in your dreams; provided your mother-in-law is not visiting you that very day and you have to pick her up from the airport. When I was first informed of the 43rd Tokyo Motor Show from 23rd November, the plan was well cut-out then and there. Day-1 visit is a must, even if that means declaring a nuclear war with our neighbors.
Before we move ahead, I want to make another revelation which I deduced after years long observation. In one of the stalls, one enthusiast gentleman was cornering the representative with all possible absurd questionnaire. There were many but the best of them was when he asked if he can apply the reverse gear while at full throttle in the top gear? And if at all that would damage the vehicle. Craziness apart; why on earth one would want to do this; provided you are not Rajnikanth? But you know what this silly question proves? It proves that we men love stuffs which are more confusing than Krishnamachari Srikanth's English. If we unfortunately understand something fully, then we feel the stuff is not worth having or using. Case in point - Male's complete disinterest in using something like.. hmm, like Toilet Flush.
Jokes apart, the morning of 23rd November was interesting in many ways. Basic check-ins were done like the battery level of my DSLR and I was all set to keep moving. I reached the show venue before any of the other members of the gang could reach. Since the rest were running late, I had some time to catch the festive atmosphere building up, well before the gates are opened for the public. Few pictures to show the outside atmosphere
Approach to the venue at Big Site
One more view of the inverted pyramids
Good sculptor
Crowd already started to build up, even before the gates were open
Gradually the crowd started to rush in. By the way, how many women you see at the first glance? May be 3 at best.
Yous truly at the entrance
After a wait of 15 minutes and denial of my repeated request to the guard to let me go to the Family Mart to pick something to eat as if my mercy petition is rejected, the rest of the gang reached. No time was wasted and no gossip on whatsoever as something enchanting was waiting inside. Formality nonsense can wait.
Moved to the ticket counter and it was already crowded. The below picture depicts the rush before we reached the entrance hall of the show.
Rush at the ticket counter
The entrance to the show after ticket check-ins
Entrance Hall
Look at the crowd already around in Hall-1, West side
Now since the main show is coming up, I need to make a declaimer.
I tried to capture all the angles of the cars whenever possible, as the positioning of the beauties were cramped to say the least. There are interior pictures also but at places little hazy because of the unknown reason they have locked the doors with full window shield on, which brought about some kind of reflection. Please pardon me there because that was the best angle I could manage to get.
I know, pictures alone without specification of the cars are as useful as my Tennis coach, but before you make a Sreesanth out of me let me assure you, I tried my best to capture those but at times failed since they were just absent or producing too glared an outfit to be put on this forum.
So buckle up your seat-belts as we jump in to the journey

1st on the deck was this
Make - Tesla
Model - S
Transmission - Zero emission automatic
Seating Capacity - 4
Front view with bonnet open
Side view
Interiors
Comparatively a large boot for an electronics vehicle
Another interior view
Next inline was not a car but a driving simulator unit, which they claim to be the best and real-some in the world. I take their words but can't stop exposing the few future Michael Schumachers of the world
After the Schumachers were credited with, we moved to the main arena and as the board suggests, you can guess the cars coming up
Next inline was the Mercedes-Benz section and the section didn't disappoint me by an ounce even.
Make - Mercedes Benz
Model - SLK 200 MT
Transmission - Manual/ Automatic
Seating Capacity - 2
Typical Merc front view
Side view
Back view
Stylish interiors
Another view of interiors
Since I was in the Merc section, another one coming up

Back View. Tail lights are big but the entire set-up looks clean and impressive
Interiors. Hazy as the glass were up
The specifications. Along with the price in Yen. Hope it is readable
None of us gets annoyed seeing as many Mercs. Don't we? So why we don't have few more from the D&C stable. Here is another one.
Make - Mercedez Benz
Model - E 250, Cabriolet
Transmission - Automatic
Seating Capacity - 4

I roam around the Merc section and saw couple more of them but didn't get impressed by them. When I was about to get dissatisfied with the quality of D&C presence, I saw this.
Make - Mercedes Benz
Model - E 400, Hybrid
Transmission - Automatic
Seating Capacity - 4
This is the best side view I could manage in that cramped setup
Ahh, the as always front view of any Merc
Interiors, little hazy though
The backside
Another interior view from the driver side
The specification tab came out too hazy for any utility. Hence not posting it.
You must have marked, this is a keep-to-right drive. In fact here in Tokyo, I have sen many KPR vehicles on the roads. I am not sure how comfortable it would driving a KPR vehicle in a KPL driving-system.
So the next Merc inline was the CLA class
Make - Mercedes Benz
Model - CLA Class
Transmission - Automatic
Seating Capacity - 4
Front View
The best side view that I could get
Interiors. Again hazy for the rolled up glasses
Back View
No specification board this time as well since it again came out very glared.
Next Merc I got is this one
Make - Mercedez Benz
Model - A Class, 180
Transmission - Automatic
Seating Capacity - 4
Front View
Back View
Interiors
Specification Tab. Look at the price. In Indian currency it would be around 14 Lakhs. Not bad at all, I would say.
Next couple of beauties were exactly what I was looking for. Few Electronics one from D&C. So the first one

I was looking for a SUV from D&C and I knew I am not far away from it and then I hit this. Great vehicle with apt muscular look that we associate with SUVs. To top it, the price even looked good to me. A Merc SUV around Rs 37 Lakhs. Not at all a bad deal. Comes in both Petrol and Diesel variants
Make - Mercedes Benz
Model - ML 350 $Matic
Transmission - Automatic
Seating Capacity - 4

When you are in Japan, can you really be too far behind in seeing a BOX pattern vehicle popup from the woodwork? No perhaps. So Merc has it's BOX model for display as well.

So that concludes the Mercedes Benz section and I moved to the other section right in front.

Next inline were some very interesting vehicles. Honestly, I never heard of this manufacturer's name before but the contents were impressive. By the way, no specifications details were displayed anywhere near the vehicles.
Make - Yamar

Transmission - Automatic/Diesel

Among all the display of Yamar, the next to come was the best thing I liked from them. It looked bulky and gave that impression as if the machine is built for some high-speed drives on the highways

Bird watchers might be wondering - What the hell; a motor show without the other side of the beauty? To tell you, we started early and probably while one set of beauties were all dressed up for the party, the other set might be busy with their make ups. So as the day progressed a little the motor show become a complete motor show in true seance. Then who else but the Yamaha has to lead from the front
The Yamaha Bay - Revs Your Heart : Quite literally though
Posts to follow will have both the set of beauties. It depends, where you want to keep your focus. :uncontrol
We are at the Yamaha section so obviously few bikes to follow

The next section was Honda. Their mobike arena was not that impressive, except a couple. So the first one that I liked
Make - Honda
Model - Repsol
Transmission - 7 Speed Manual / Sports Bike
Seating Capacity - 1
The singular view that was all possible
Before we move forward, I will tell you all something. I don't know the purpose why the organizers allow average jacks to ride on their vehicle in a motor show. That defies the whole notion of something called display. People visit motor shows to have a good glimpse of the vehicles, not some wannabe Motorbike world champion doing all kind of gimmicks atop a static vehicle, a-la Abhisekh Bachhan. I might sound like that cunning and irritating uncle who never gives back the Cricket ball but whats the take. Enjoy the display and if you really want to ride it then just goddamn buy it. Why obstruct others from taking a complete view, like this gentleman did to me
The second one from Honda 2-wheeler that I liked.
Make - Honda
Model - Marchal
Transmission - 5 Speed Manual
Seating Capacity - 1
Front View - Look at the smart Alec
Side View with the smart Alec
Honestly the entire Honda arena was disappointing. Didn't like what they had in their bike segment expect two and pretty much same goes for their Car section as well. Except 3, rest were pretty much average. So the 1st of the three comes up

That concluded the Honda section as rest were pretty much common stuff. It was well into 1:30 and we were all hungry. Time was for to cajole our tummies before going to other sections. Some shots taken while going to the cafeteria/foodcourt
The crowd
Crowd in the central hall
More crowd. They even had Trucks for display but never ventured there
Some concept car designer's project
Didn't I say there would be plenty of beauty here?

Honestly again, NISSAN also disappointed me a great lot. I was dearly expecting their latest claim of a X-Trail Hybrid on display but unfortunately nothing were there. That said, there was one particular car that was worth taking a note. But before we move there, why not have a glimpse of the entire range of cars that Nissan has at their common display area. It contained cars from Nissan vintage dates to their proposed concept segment.
This particular one from Nissan captured my eyes
