Fiat Panda Cross at 2014 Geneva Motor Show

Hi all, The Panda Cross is meant to be a city car that drivers can also take off-road if need arises. Its all-wheel drive system comes with a standard electronic-locking differential to manage torque delivery, and drivers can lock the diff, at speeds under 30 miles per hour, to improve traction further. The mini off-roader comes with either a 1.3-liter diesel four-cylinder with 80 horsepower and 140 pound-feet of torque or the 900cc turbocharged two-cylinder with 90 hp and 107 lb-ft. Both engines have standard stop/start and are mated to a six-speed manual.

Hi all, Here is the rear profile of the car. The new Fiat Panda Cross 4x4 comes with a Bear Grylls attitude and a dual personality. Fiat claims this high-riding city car is as happy in city traffic as it is taking on ‘the toughest off-road conditions’.

What a joke A reminder that we shouldn't take PR statements at face value. This thing would self-disintegrate in the "toughest off-road conditions".

Soft-roaders should be marketed as soft-roaders only. Keep it real.

True Sir, Fiat is probably trying to confuse its future consumer base by issuing such contradictory statements. Eyeing the off-roading segment with a mere 4x4 is of no use as there is a lot of technical competency about the vehicle which needs to be taken into account before labelling it as a all-rounder vehicle.

Thanks

Do not write off the Panda 4x4. It isn't a jeep or a Land rover defender.
But, its as good as a Range Rover and that's saying something.

Sorry, but. I don't agree with you. Panda might not be as powerful as a LR is. But it has very good off-roading capabilities. Just look for some videos on youtube, you will be amazed with its capabilities.

It is dependent on the version you are buying too. Some versions are powerful. And some aren't. The earlier versions were bare bone, so they were quite capable off roaders. But the case might differ with the new ones.

Very cute. Is that based on the 500?
It looks a bit like the Multipla even!
I like this little monster very much indeed!

AD, terming this car as an off-roader is really funny and a joke. I agree with GTO that PR statements should not be taken at face value. What happens if Nissan, Renault and Ford start making similar claims about Terrano, Duster and Ecosport respectively?

Yes, if this is marketed as a soft roader and launched in India, it can give some competition to the likes of Ford,Nissan and Ertiga. But, how this is termed as an off-roader is beyond my understanding.
