Skoda VISION RS reveals the design of the next generation of RS models and the future compact model.

The ŠKODA VISION RS study will provide a preview of the new ŠKODA compact car at this year's Paris Motor Show, as well as the next evolutionary step of the ŠKODA sporty design with the addition of RS. Even before the world premiere at the Paris Motor Show in Paris, ŠKODA now offers the first sketch of the dynamic study of ŠKODA VISION RS through design sketches

ŠKODA VISION RS is 4356 mm long, 1810 mm wide and only 1431 mm high. The wheelbase measures 2650 mm. ŠKODA VISION RS, with a number of design solutions, refers to ŠKODA racing cars, showing the direction of the design of the ŠKODA sports cars with RS attribute, and at the same time recalling the 117-year history of the ŠKODA car motorsport. The letters RS, first used in 1974 for the 180 RS and 200 RS racing specials, were celebrated worldwide by successful 130 RS models. Since 2000, ŠKODA has been used to mark sporty top-of-the-range models.

Crystal glass, carbon and references to motor sport
The elongated instrument panel with carbon elements picks up the symmetrical contours of the radiator grille. The decor of the VISION RS consists of handmade and specially cut crystal from the Czech glass manufacturer Lasvit. The instrument panel features special RS design animations and is illuminated by lighting effects that interact with the infotainment system touch screen.

The centre console of the VISION RS in space-frame design with integrated shift-by-wire operation of the DSG is made entirely of carbon. Also used for the decorative elements, door panels and seats, this high-tech material creates a direct link to the world of motor racing. The special loop-shaped door handles are reminiscent of racing cars; storage compartments with elastic rubber bands are “simply clever”. In addition to a sporty appearance, sustainability is another key element of the ŠKODA VISION RS. For example, the carbon fibres consist of 100% recycled polyester, with the seat covers made from vegan Alcantara.

Skoda Vision RS Hybrid Concept teased , previews 2019 Rapid replacement.

Skoda is preparing to launch a vRS plug-in hybrid version of its forthcoming Rapid hatchback.

The new performance version will be previewed at the Paris motor show with the Vision RS concept. Beneath the sporting detailing, the car also gives an idea of how the replacement for the current Rapid compact hatch will look. The new Rapid arrives next year, with a vRS version likely to follow a little later.

The concept’s hybrid drivetrain makes 242bhp by combining the Volkswagen Group’s 148bhp 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine with a 101bhp electric motor. Skoda says “the vision is close to the reality” of the concept, meaning the production version is likely to come close to the performance figures of 7.1sec from 0-62mph and a top speed of 130mph.

The 13kWh battery pack gives a battery-only range of 70km as measured on the outgoing NEDC cycle and helps cut CO2 to a claimed 33g/km, which should mean a production version would duck under 50g/km and allow it to be classed as an ultra-low-emission vehicle.
