I remember this series well. Was it ever shown in India?

I was in my early teens. I seem to recall that the original KITT was based on a Pontiac Trans Am. Nice very 80s series. Some good action, car chases, fights, but nobody ever died. Bit of obligatory romance here and there and you knew immediately who the baddies were!

My only question is - How do you make a U turn with that W shaped steering wheel. Wouldnt it be so uncomfy to use.

A steering wheel handle/knob would really be useful here and probably could be attached to any one end of the "W"

It is extremely uncomfortable. but that is not the point. It made David Hasselhoff look really cool and futuristic.

After a while the novelty wore off and David dropped all the fancy props, got into his swimming trunks and starred in Baywatch as a life guard on the beach.

Oh yes, it was shown along with Street Hawk during the 90's.
Few of the non-Indian made series that were a hit with the youth along with the Jap series 'Robot'

Jeroen, yup Knight Rider was indeed shown in india. Dont remember if it was on DD Metro or DD national.

In a world of Ramanand Sagar's Ramayan, these two series were a welcome change for us during our childhood.

I remember there was another series about a bike too 'STREET HAWK'.

Probably every kid's dream revolved around Kitt and STREET Hawk.

Yes, I was very young, may be 6 or 7 years old, when this series was aired on T.V. All of us at home used to glued to the T.V sets, just to watch the wonders done by this car.

That was one lovely machine.

re: David Hasselhoff puts KITT (Knight Rider) on sale

It's nice to hear this series was shown in India as well and you all enjoyed. I don't think I'm familiar with the other series that have been mentioned.

Sometimes it's nice to take a little trip down memory lane. I can still vividly remembers some of the TV series I watched during my teens. Now and then you get the change to watch a repeat and of course with youtube you can find a lot.

Going a bit of topic now

But sometimes when you revisit your old favorites you become very disappointed. It's just not as good or as funny and entertaining as you remembered it.

Some of my own favorites and feelings when I watch them now

Thunderbirds / Captain Scarlett: My kids loved them and I'm still watching it.
The Avengers: John Steed, Mrs Peel, still nice but the novelty has worn off
Monthy Pyton; most of it still as good and as funny as the first time I saw it.
All westerns, such as Bonanza, High Chaperel, The virginian; all very dated, but still nice to watch
Mash: I must have watched every episode at least 10 times over and I'm still enjoying it. Same for the original Mash movie
Only fools and horses; see Mash, watched even more reruns though
Original Startrek series; not very enjoyable anymore, but I thought it was brilliant at the time

etc.

Actually, it was during the 80s. I remember watching them around 1986-1987. I dont think they were available during the 90s.

'The Giant Robot' ... used to be quite a hit those days...I saw a clip of it on YouTube recently , it looked so quaint, and was wondering how we found it so engrossing then .

Not very sure about the years since late 80's and early 90's were the same for me since I was quite young and memories of those years are minimal. apart from my cycling!

Giant Robot, yes that was the name. I YouTubed it now and brings back so many memories!

Talking about Knight Rider. I have the theme song of it as my ring tone and when it rings, seeing peoples reaction is fun.

Nope it was during the nineties.

I can recall; since we purchased a new tv on my birthday in 1991, and I used to watch Knight rider and Street Hawk.

Ok, so they were aired during the 90s also. I guess I had stopped watching them (grown up) by then.

I find the more grown up I become, the more I enjoy looking at some of this old stuff from my teens. My kids tell me I'm going senile, but their time will come too.

There were times in the mid 80's when western English serials broadcasted from our neighboring country, Bangladesh. I remember, I was in my early teens that time, from Kolkata we used to put our TV Antenna's direction towards Bangladesh to capture there signals for these shows on Wednesday night. Not only 'Night Rider' the other action serials like 'A Team' & 'Street Hawk' was also use to broadcast from Bangladesh.

Beginning of 90s, Doordarshan began broadcasting these serials which were once beamed on Bangladeshi airwaves. Undoubtedly, this was the most keenly awaited shows in those days.
