Audi's 2.0L TFSI engine with two electric motors: 53 kpl and 0-100 in 4.6 secs

Audi is introducing automotive nirvana. A car that is capable of 0-100 in 4.6 seconds and 53 kmpl !!

Audi has come out with a concept powered by a 2.0-liter TFSI engine paired to two electric motors. Combined, the concept produces 408 hp and 650 Nm of torque enabling a 0-100 km/h time of 4.6 seconds and a top-speed of 250 km/h. However, Audi says the car will do 52.63 km/l!

The concept can be driven on pure electricity for 50 km, while the overall range stands at 820 km. It uses a 6-speed dual-clutch e-S tronic transmission which sends power only to the front wheels on normal surfaces. When the system detects wheel slip, it engages the Quattro all-wheel drive system.

On the outside, the concept’s shell has been made using only aluminium and CFRP (Carbon fiber reinforced polymer.

The styling of this concept is likely to influence future Audis.

I hope not. I don't think much of this design at all. Looks a bit like a pregnant whale. I've always been a fan of Audi's. The A4 and A6 I had as my company cars back in Europe are still some of my favourites. However, I've never liked their SUV design (no regular sedan) much. To bulky for my taste. Same for this one. Going fast and efficient is one thing, but I need to see something visually pleasing as well.

Agreed, it is just a bloated A3. Also there is nothing revolutionary. Volvo have been doing something similar with the plug in V60.

While designing SUV's, most designers appear to think that size matters more than design. And strangely enough most of the SUV customers seem to agree.

This is an All Road Shooting Brake.

Au

On the outside, the concept’s shell has been made using only aluminium and CFRP (Carbon fiber reinforced polymer.
So they have drastically reduced the weight with Carbon fiber composit and that seems to be real reason behind 53 kmpl. This is what jet fighters and some of super cars do where costs of composite panels relative to rest of machinery is negligible

However seeing the costs involved I doubt if they will commercialize the concept in short run let's say a decade or so.
