ZF moves to buy TRW - Shake up in the supplier market

There was a big shakeup in the automotive supplier market late last week, as Germany's ZF, a company well regarded around these parts for its gearboxes, submitted a surprise preliminary offer to purchase Michigan-based TRW Automotive, a supplier of safety systems, suspension components, and so on.

Re: ZF moves to buy TRW - Shake up in the supplier market

It surely is a big news, If this acquisition goes through, ZF & TRW combined ( Revenues approx 37 B USD from automotive sector) will be the second biggest automotive supplier after Bosch (40 B USD). With the industry moving towards more of an automated system assistance and increasing emphasis on safety, TRW is going to be a great value add for ZF. Moreover, ZF is strong in Europe and derives around 58% of revenues from that region, with TRW, it can gain a strong foothold in Americas region as well. The recent news says the ZF and TRW are in advance talks and ZF is thinking over divesting its steering unit as a part of the deal
