Mercedes-Benz GLS (GL facelift) spotted testing. EDIT: Now revealed

German luxury carmaker Mercedes-Benz has started testing a refreshed version of the GL SUV. The car was spied undergoing winter testing.

The GL will be renamed as the GLS in accordance with the new nomenclature that was announced by the company last month. Test mule features camouflage on bonnet and front and rear bumpers, grille, headlamps and tail lamps, indicating that these parts of the car are likely to receive changes.

No images of the interiors are available, but reports suggest that the GLS is likely to get some minor revisions on the inside. The car is likely to carry forward the engine options from the current GL range. In India it is available as a GL 350 CDI with a 3.0-litre, V6 diesel (255 bhp @ 3600 rpm and 619 Nm @ 1600-2400 rpm) mated to a 7G-Tronic Plus automatic gearbox. A GL 63 AMG is also available sporting a 5.5-litre, V8 petrol engine with 550 bhp and 760 Nm on the tap.

Mercedes-Benz is likely to unveil the GLS sometime in 2015. The car's launch in India is expected to follow.

Mercedes-Benz has revealed the facelifted GL-Class SUV and as per the German automaker's new model nomenclature, it will now be known as the GLS-Class. The SUV gets a new set of headlights with DRLs, tweaked tail lights, a new and meatier front grille, new front and rear bumpers, along with updated alloy wheel designs. On the inside, the infotainment system display is now a free standing tablet, rather than being integrated into the dashboard. The cabin also features a 3-spoke steering wheel, tweaked instrument cluster, restyled AC vents and a new touchpad controller.

Re: Mercedes-Benz GLS (GL facelift) spotted testing. EDIT: Now revealed

Mercedes quietly changed the GL450 engine from V8 to V6 last year, disappointing!! If one wants a V8 then next up in the ladder, GL550 is the option at 100K decently loaded. It doesn't make sense to put in a 3L engine in that big of a SUV and keep the same pricing. Honda Pilot has a 3.5L for ENGINE's sake After test driving the GL450(V6) last week, my take is that the engine struggles for mid-range pickup when cruising at 60-70 MPH. Important for overtaking!
GLS carries over the same old V6 engine but the V8 gets a bump of 20+ HP to around 450 ponies which is nice.

The order book for GLS will open in December first week and the deliveries in March next year.
