Ariel Nomad all-terrain revealed

The first images of Ariel's all-terrain vehicle the "Nomad" have been released. The Nomad will make its public debut at the Autosport International show in January, 2015. The vehicle will use the Atom's mechanical layout including the ladder frame chassis, but will be tweaked for tackling off road tracks. Changes include a raised ground clearance, gumball tyres, a long travel suspension & a roll over structure with a windscreen.

Power is said to come from a Honda sourced, 2.4-litre, four cylinder unit that could deliver over 200 bhp. Transmission duties will be carried out by a 6-speed manual with a limited slip differential coming as standard fitment. The Nomad should tip the scales at around 700 kgs. Prices will begin around £30,000 ( INR 29.65 Lakh approx ). While bookings will be accepted from January, customers can expect their deliveries mid-way through 2015.

286 BHP to the ton! This thing will fly on rough roads. Will require immense driver skill, even more so than the regular Atom. Rehaan had a lot of fun in the Rage Cyclone (link) with 130 BHP / Tonne. In terms of concept, they aren't too different.

Although, if you have an unlimited budget and want to really offroad, look no further than this:

Re: Ariel Nomad all-terrain revealed

My first impression is "wow!". And then I think, "hmmm, it's not new. This looks a lot like my R/C buggy I had as a kid". On road, the Ariel Atom has great charm and as I've sadly, only, read and watched, world beating performance. But off-road, I imagine that challenges are very different. On road, in the famously wet British weather, a little rain and spray never really hurt anyone. But off-road, being blasted by sand, slush and rocks thrown up by the tyres will hurt! The windscreen on the concept is probably a good place to start.

On a related note, J-L Schlesser of Dakar fame is probably the most famous proponent of racing buggies.

Ariel has released a set of photos of the actual vehicle, as well as two videos of it in motion on some gravel roads.
