BMW 1-Series facelift revealed

German luxury carmaker BMW has revealed a refreshed version of the 1-Series hatchback. The car has been given some cosmetic as well as mechanical changes.

Among the changes to the exterior is a new, flatter kidney grille, redesigned front bumper with larger air intakes and flatter and sharper headlights with LED daytime running lights as standard. Full-LED headlights are available as optional equipment. The tail lamps of the 1-Series have also been redesigned and are now LED units with an L shape.

Standard equipment on the 1-Series includes automatic air-conditioning, rain sensor, BMW Radio Professional and iDrive operating system with a 6.5-inch display integrated in the instrument panel as a freestanding monitor.

The BMW 1-Series facelift will be available with three and four-cylinder petrol and diesel engines. Here's a glance at the various units on offer:

Petrol
  • 116i - 1,499 cc, 3-cylinder, TwinPower turbo, 107 bhp, 180 Nm
  • 118i - 1,598 cc, 4-cylinder, TwinPower turbo, 134 bhp, 220 Nm
  • 120i - 1,598 cc, 4-cylinder, TwinPower turbo, 174 bhp, 250 Nm
  • 125i - 1,997 cc, 4-cylinder, TwinPower turbo, 215 bhp, 310 Nm
  • M135i, M135i xDrive - 2,979 cc, 6-cylinder, TwinPower turbo, 322 bhp, 450 Nm
Diesel
  • 116d, 116d EfficientDynamics - 1,496 cc, 3-cylinder, TwinPower turbo, 114 bhp, 270 Nm
  • 118d, 118d xDrive - 1,995 cc, 4-cylinder, TwinPower turbo, 148 bhp, 320 Nm
  • 120d, 120d xDrive - 1,995 cc, 4-cylinder, TwinPower turbo, 188 bhp, 400 Nm
  • 125d - 1,995 cc, 4-cylinder, TwinPower turbo, 221 bhp, 450 Nm
An 8-speed Steptronic automatic gearbox will be available on the 1-Series.

The new 1 looks so much more approachable now, finally a match for the A class I'd say.

BMW should bring manual versions of the 25 and 35i to India for those clamoring for a hot hatch.

Even the base 20d would be ample.

Minor visual updates, but quite effective IMO, especially the headlights. That said, I don't think the facelift is going to make any difference in the Indian market - unless they get the 120d within the current price range (which is quite unlikely).
