Mini One First 5-door revealed

Mini has just revealed the Mini One First 5-door. The car will be powered by a 1.2-litre, 3-cylinder TwinPower Turbo engine that produces nearly 74 BHP and 150 Nm of torque at 1,400 rpm. Mini claims the new engine can drive the car to 100 km/h in 13.4 seconds.

Transmission duties are carried out by a 6-speed manual gearbox with an integrated gear sensor that enables "harmonious and dynamic shifting", while offering "optimized efficiency, reduced weight and a high level of shift comfort". The addition of this variant gives the Mini 5-door an engine portfolio of four petrol and three diesel engines, covering an output range of 74 BHP to 189 BHP.

Oh, Poor thing. 74BHP Mini? That reminds me of my Figo.
Do they want to enter into the mass market?
I wonder if there will be takers of this, if it is less powered than a sensible hatch.

You never know though. It could do the Vespa story.

74 BHP looks too small for a brand like Mini, but 150 Nm @ 1400 rpm sound very interesting. This should be a boon for users inside City.

Such a wide range?

Yeah, 0-100 in 13.4 seconds isn't impressive, but if someone wants a style statement in slow moving traffic, it could make sense.

Includes the Cooper S as well, so range gets mighty wide

A mini that has a 1.2L engine, produces less than 85hp and does 0-100 in 13.4 seconds. Wasn't that called 'Suzuki Swift' earlier?

BMW surely seems to be ruining the core philosophy of the mini, in the name of diversification. First of all - its not a Mini anymore. And now the Maxi comes with tiny engines to boot as well.

Re: Mini One First 5-door revealed

Mini is seriously diluting its brand. And there's a reason they're doing so - its sales are falling in big markets like the USA.

The Indian launch was equally ridiculous. 114 BHP 3-Cylinder diesel for 40 lakhs - related thread.

BMW is looking like a clueless duck right now. Not surprising that their annual sales in India dipped to 6.5k, while Audi & Mercedes are well over 10K.

Thumbs down to slow, underpowered & overpriced Minis. Bring the Cooper S at 25 lakhs. Then we're talking.
