Yet another render;

This pick up truck will be manufactured at Nissan’s plants in Spain and Argentina. The model will be engineered to meet the specific needs of Mercedes' customers and will be offered in a double cab configuration.

re: Mercedes' 1st Pickup Truck coming up! EDIT: Concept revealed

Mercedes said their new pick up won't be a "fat cowboy truck for North America" and won't compete with the big names from Ford, General Motors and Ram as they admit it would be a difficult task to battle in the full-size segment.

Instead, they plan on introducing a mid-size truck which will be significantly different than the Navara with a bespoke design to "meet Mercedes criteria" and obviously with a price to match what will be the "first pickup truck from a premium manufacturer."

Looks like a Nissan to me .. Zoom into the masked badge too on the grille
Just read the rest of the thread, it's a Nissan based truck so I could be wrong , but this definitely is a massive departure from mb design language

The folks at Mercedes sure aren't short on sense of humor these days!

They are testing a Navara NP300 as a Navara NP300 for Mercedisation. Once testing is done, just slap badges and launch.

The only give away are the wheel rims. (Which seem to be inspired by various earlier S-class cars)

Yes, that was almost a grounds-up project with very little to borrow from the Pilot.

I was mainly speaking in terms of adaptability of converting an existing or old platform into the dual cab pickup.

They could not take a G-class and then convert it to a pickup (like they could if they had a ladder frame base)

The new ridgeline shares its body structure with the pilot.

"The truck will share its ACE body structure, 3.5-liter V-6 engine, six-speed automatic transmission and optional all-wheel drive system with i-VTM4 terrain management software with the new 2016 Pilot SUV. "

And here is a G63 pickup - obviously not based on the G class architecture.

As 1100D mentioned the wheels are a giveaway. As this pick up is based on Nissan Navara they are testing with the Nissan body. Many times test mules carry body parts of another car (or old gen) to confuse the competitors or sometimes the media.

Yes, that too is true, but even in the case of this iteration, its a project that spawns two body types (one SUV and another crew pickup) as planned from the inception. The Ladder-type base.

On the otherhand, the G-class did not have a pickup planned on it.

Besides, I think Mercedes is only trying to gauge the response/acceptance to the idea of a pickup from Mercedes. Too uncertain a prospect (They already know that they dont have the size/girth to compete with the US biggies) to invest substantially in a grounds up project, hence the Navara route.

Now the question is, why the Navara and not the Titan? Probably because they know they wont be able to cut much ice in the US using a rebadged Nissan in the first place (applicable to the Navara too). But in the other markets the Titanic (pun intended) size can be a setback in the actual target markets they want to test the waters in.

As much as I know, it is a result of Daimler & Renault-Nissan alliance not only Daimler and Nissan.

re: Mercedes' 1st Pickup Truck coming up! EDIT: Concept revealed

When they already have the fabulous & the best looking G, why try other designs? But has its advantage, the G's brand won't be diluted. They should design something un-aerodynamic, will look good.
