Suzuki introduces all-new 1.4L BoosterJet petrol engine!

After the critically acclaimed 1.0L BoosterJet turbo-petrol powerplant, Suzuki has now introduced a bigger 1.4L BoosterJet turbo-petrol at the Shanghai Motor Show.

Power and Torque:
140 PS @ 5500 RPM, 220 Nm @ 1700-4000

The turbocharged powerplant will be used inside it's future compact SUV and the next-generation Ciaz sedan, due in 2018.

Quote:
The company claims that the new 1.4-litre engine offers dynamic performance along with high mileage through its direct-injection turbocharged set-up. Designed using weight-reduction technology, the features have an optimised layout to meet size and weight requirements.

The new 1.4-litre Boosterjet engine will be first introduced in Suzuki models in the Chinese market, and then will be launched in other international markets.

Great to see other manufacturers lining up direct-injection turbo petrols! VW won't be the only trick in town.

This could easily add 30 - 40 BHP to the existing 1.4L n/a motor's power ratings. Not to forget, diesel-like torque at the low end . Sad to hear it's going to take so long though. The main problem with the current Ciaz is its lack of horsepower (Ciaz petrol review). Nevertheless, a welcome development.

Suzuki's 1.4L turbo-petrol will debut in China this year.

S Cross will be get this engine mated to the CVT and will debut in Q3 2015.

The 1.4-liter Boosterjet will produce better power and torque, while minimizing fuel consumption - reported figures are 136 PS and 220 Nm of torque.

About time Suzuki getting a turbo petrol, otherwise thought they might borrow FIATS TJET this time, to replace their petrol engines

BUT 2018 ?

Till then VW & FIAT will be 2 steps ahead of the game already be it in Engine department or the gearbox tech too.

In terms of technology, they might be 2 steps ahead in 2018, but in terms of sales numbers, they will still be innumerable & uncountable steps behind, in spite of lack of engine options with Maruti.
Also, the Ciaz is selling decent numbers with these powerless engines. Hence they are not in too much hurry.

Why china first ? Isin't India Suzuki's biggest market ? Why such treatment to Suzuki's most important car market ?

Maruti Suzuki is fast tracking development of 2 diesel engines - the 1.5 and 1.2.

Once developed the dependence on Fiat will reduce substantially. Once in production, the 1.5 diesel will power the upcoming YBA- EcoSport rival in the Compact SUV segment.
