Matt LeBlanc does it for me. Chris Evans, not so much. But, that's just him.

Also, I fail to understand the herd mentality/joining the bandwagon vibe here(as well as on every other car forum), that of hating on the new series! It's absolutely silly, if you ask me.

Jeremy Clarkson, is not the end of the world. Neither is he a car God of some sort.
He's just a racist, middle-aged, pompous British television presenter, who, thanks to all his political stunts, received what he deserved. One must never mess with the political issues of a country; especially not a foreign one! His Jupiter sized ego probably never understood that.

Also, everyone hating on the new series, y'all do know that the JC, JM, RH Top Gear too, was a reboot of the original series that went on from 1977 till 2001!
Never came across anyone losing their minds as much as the fanboys right now are.

IMO, the new cast definitely deserves a chance.
Else, this is totally like the classic Indian arranged marriage situation, where you've already made up your mind to decline the prospective groom/bride, even before you've met them; that's exactly how most of the haters have been going on about the new series.

Just my 2 cents :)

Thank you for being the voice of reason.
I was wondering if I was the only person who thoroughly enjoyed the new series, especially Matt LeBlanc.

Couldn't stand that racist bully Clarkson by the end of it.

Episode2 is much better than the first and largely because of MattLeBlanc(huge fan) and toned down Chris. Africa part is just awesome but they surely missed the quirky fun factor which was epic with personal touch from the trio Clarkson,Hammond n May. This can be compensated a bit by bringing in some interesting guests each week like they did with Eddie who will add some flavour. And if you observe there was not much of a review or comparison done between 3 SUVs. It was just a drive.
In Clarkson they had blithering idiot and snob, in James they had a quirky engineer and Hammond was stunt guy and to be honest he has done some amazing stunts. And these 3 qualities made show interesting. How do they want to do it in this new show. Who will be stunt guy? What will they do to compensate other two?

Looking at all the posts and then yours, seems like you are the only one losing his mind over this. People watched the new show and did not like it. Why does anyone have to be a fanboy of JC or have herd mentality for that? To each, his own. No one is stopping you from watching it.

I hated it. And I am looking forward to the GT like many others here.

If the new TG improves over time, I will get back to watching that too. Not like JC is paying any of the fanboys to watch his show.

Voice of the reason because it matches your opinion? What is unreasonable in not liking a show which was well liked, more than well liked infact, by the same folks who dislike the new one? Not reasoned enough.

Did anybody watch the new Top Gear with Chris Evans and the crowd. What's the verdict.

I think Matt Le Blanc is great on the new Top Gear. He is being himself unlike Chris Evans who's trying too hard. I've read BBC is talking to Le Blanc to take over as the main presenter from season 2 - not sure how far this is true.

The old Top Gear had more humour with the way the 3 of them got along. The new one will get better as it goes along - the second episode was much better than the first.
Having said that, I'm sure Grand Tour will be on another level !

I'm surprised no one has talked about Chris Harris and Rory Reid among all this hate towards Chris Evans. I don't know if anyone has seen any of the Extra Gear episodes but Harris and Reid are amazing presenters on it. They should be elevated to the main show.

I don't know why BBC sidelined Chris Harris to Extra Gear, he is the only motoring journalist among the cast. I think Harris, LeBlanc and Sabine Schmitz should be included in all the Top Gear Specials/Road Trips. Rory Reid should be the main anchor of the show and he should do the Star in a RallyCross Car interview.

Not much, some celebrities driving expensive cars, some shout a lot. No entertainment value for me.

Saw the first episode, was disappointed . Rather than get judgemental quickly, saw the second as well. Still disappointed. They are trying to replicate the humor from earlier and appears forced. LeBlanc was good and would definitely be a great headliner for the American version, which for the first time has become good and worth watching.
Overall, best avoided, unless you have absolutely nothing else to watch or do.

Was searching for reviews on the net for the new Top Gear and came across this.

The episode with Chris Evans Is just plain noise! That guy squeaks. They are trying to do an exact replica like the rgv did with sholay. Will not work!

Maddy

Even the so called saving grace Matt isnt as good as the worst of the three, if there is any such thing that is. I was watching the older episodes yesterday on Netflix and that brought home the point better than any argument here. It is not even a patch on the old Topgear, just a sorry excuse. You can even tell they dont love cars as much.

If you think Matt is better than either James or Richard see the BMW M5 review.

Watched the first episode of the new Top Gear starring Chris Evans et al. To say it was a disappointment would be a understatement. Even though Matt LeBlanc looked and sounded okay in bits and starts, Chris Evans himself acted like a hyper-excited schoolboy.

Overall, the complete package does neither appeal nor interest.

Looking forward to The Grand Tour now.

Watched the 2 episodes back to back. The only good thing about the show is Joey! :)

They should not stick with the same format, it's unfair to the new presenters as well as the fans! Seeing these challenges, some or the other memory came rushing back, about the trio. Cook up something new BBC, I am sure you have a good creative team, give 'em a free hand or something :)

I hereby join the minority here and say that I enjoyed watching the first 2 episodes of Top Gear season 23! Evans is no Clarkson - fact. So people who wanna watch Clarkson again should be waiting for the Amazon series, and stop criticizing Evans.

When I watch Top Gear, what I expect is a lot of cars, reviews, drives across beautiful landscapes and of course, the laughs. Episodes 1&2 of the new season delivered most of that. I've never seen Evans before on TV or YouTube. As many pointed out, he is shouting and jumping around a bit, but not to an extent where I wanna switch off the TV and walk away! The background commentary that he gives is good.

To be honest, Clarkson was getting a li'l boring and predictable towards the final seasons. His arrogance levels were just shooting through the roof. The whole Argentina fiasco was uncalled for. He just thought that he could walk into any country and say what he wants, just because he's been a TV presenter for so long, backed by a production house as big as the BBC? That was the beginning of his end! And he chose to throw his weight around and teach one of his producers a lesson by throwing a punch? Not cool! He deserved his sacking. I'm no great fan of May and Hammond either for playing 'follow the leader'! The opportunity was there for either of them to take over as the main presenter, but unfortunately neither had the guts to do that! Again, not cool!

We should all give Evans, LeBlanc and co some time to form the 'chemistry', shouldn't we? Clarkson, May and Hammond were together for some 12-13 years! It's harsh to expect that kinda entertainment quotient from a brand new team from just 2 episodes!!

Go Top Gear...!
