Audi has revealed teaser images and a teaser video of the Q2 SUV, ahead of the model's debut at the 2016 Geneva Motor Show. The baby-SUV will slide in below the Q3 and will be the fourth Audi SUV after the Q7, Q5 and Q3.

The Q2 will be underpinned by VW's MQB architecture and the design will conform to what we have seen on current-generation Audi vehicles. Audi has kept details on the car restricted, but reports suggest the inclusion of three and four cylinder, petrol and diesel engines. VW's DSG automatic gearbox will be offered, while a manual gearbox will come as standard. Front-wheel drive will be standard while the Quattro all-wheel drive system will be available as an optional extra.

While the ‘in-the-metal’ debut will be at Geneva, an online reveal can be expected a few days before the event.

The all-new Audi Q2 has made its world debut at the Geneva motor show. The rugged looking crossover weighs just 1205kg. It comes with a choice of six drivetrains and optional quattro four-wheel drive. Audi says the new model has been built to cater for the demands of young, urban drivers, and hopes it will draw new buyers to the brand.

At launch, three TFSI and three TDI engines are offered, ranging from 1.0 to 2.0-litre capacities. The entry 1.0-litre three-cylinder TFSI produces a peak output of 114bhp in the Q2. Above this, Audi’s 1.4-litre TFSI comes with cylinder-on-demand technology, while the most potent petrol is a 2.0-litre TFSI that produces 187bhp. The diesel range starts with a 114bhp 1.6-litre TDI, that’s joined by a 2.0-litre TDI in two states of tune – 148bhp and 187bhp. As standard, the new car comes with a six-speed manual gearbox, but an S tronic dual-clutch ’box is offered as an option. 2.0-litre petrol and diesel models come exclusively with this transmission, which Audi says uses a new type of low-friction oil supply.

Additional Info

Audi is offering the Q2 with its variable damper technology, helping to broaden the car’s breadth of on-road abilities. Sports suspension that lowers ride height by 10mm is available, while variable-ratio steering comes as standard. The Q2 can be cycled through four drive modes: Auto, Comfort, Dynamic and Efficiency. Cars equipped with Audi’s latest MMI infotainment system have an additional Individual mode that allows drivers to customise settings to their preferences. Audi says the Q2 can venture off road. When the ESC is set to off-road mode, the car’s drivetrain adjusts to work in slippery conditions and ground clearance is increased to 200mm. Nevertheless, the fitment of Pirelli P Zero road tyres confirms the car’s true purpose. A long list of safety and driver-assistance features are fitted to the Q2, many of which are previously unseen in this compact class. Heading the list is a pedestrian and collision-prevention automatic-braking function, with traffic jam assist and adaptive cruise control making use of the same hardware.

Additionally, the Q2 gets camera-based active lane assist and traffic sign-recognition technology, with park assist systems also available.

The front looks decent but the rear is hideous. With the different colored C pillar its got a bit of a I20 feel (could say Evoque, but we have more I20s). I do worry that Audi might not stay at the same premium level as BMW, Mercedes with such launches in India (if at all they launch it here).

The initial impression of Audi Q2 is elegant, classy and nice. They have not deviated from Audi "Q" family series and gave it same genes. For India perspective, they should price this baby SUV at 15-30 Lakhs range and make it sub 4 meters with 1.5 litre diesel engine. The diesel engine is already manufactured in VW Chakan plant and it will help them to price it in this range.

It doesn't look too bad.

How much should this one cost in India. Can they price it below 20? If they can, they have a real winner.

If it launches here at about 18L OTR, it'll find a lot of takers, including myself! Hell, I'll sell almost all of the cars in the family to get it stupid:

This cannot beat the Skoda Yeti offering for sure. If it's equal or smaller than yeti, with higher pricing, it's already a dud.
Pricing is the key!

Audi Q2 - Drive in Video,

I sat in it today and then sat in a Q3. Q3 felt wider but leg room was not that different. I would be very confused between a Q2 and Q3 !

The images are deceiving. In some angles it looks more like a merc a class rival and in some way bigger than that. I really wish the Q2 is of a reasonable size, say similar to a Yeti and not the size of an i20..

Audi Q2 / Yeti, a tad smaller than Yeti :)

Length, mm 4190 / 4222
Width 1790 / 1793
Height 1510 / 1671 incl. roof rails

Length is bound to be less, but inside space must be the same, luggage space will be less.
