The Aston Martin DB11 with a V12 Turbo!

So Aston Martin has finally unveiled the DB9 successor and the biggest news is the new engine. It is now a turbocharged, yes, you read that right, V12!

And if you think turbocharging has muted the symphony, then you won't be disappointed. Well, maybe a little since it does have turbochargers and so it is bound to sound different, but it still sounds pretty good. Forward to the end of these clips to hear her-

More details via Road&Track:
We've known for several months now that the DB11 would be Aston Martin's successor to the DB9, but it wasn't until recently that we had any idea what it would look like. First, we saw a leaked image of the rear of the car, but then a few weeks ago another shot leaked, this time of the front end. Now the DB11 is officially here, and we have to say, we like the way it looks.

The company's design language has clearly evolved, but thankfully we're not looking at a drastic change here. Aston calls it "the latest landmark in a remarkable aesthetic
journey," but we just call it a great-looking car. When Aston Martin CEO Andy Palmer says, "we aspire to make the most beautiful
cars in the world," he's clearly not joking.

What's under the hood is just as important as how the car looks and the DB11 doesn't disappoint. It has a 5.2-liter twin-turbo V12 that makes 600 horsepower and 516 lb.-ft. of torque. That's enough to hit 62 mph in 3.9 seconds and give the DB11 a top speed of 200 mph.

What it doesn't have is a manual transmission. Instead, you get an eight-speed ZF automatic.

Thankfully, you get a torque vectoring limited-slip differential that should make the DB11 more fun in the corners even if you don't get to shift your own gears. It also has adjustable dampers, so you can choose how sporty you want the ride to be.

Aston Martin claims the DB11 is a genuine 2+2, with a trunk that's large enough to accommodate a full set of luggage and increased head and legroom in the rear. Amazingly, you get ISOFIX mounting points for a pair of child seats in the back, so there's no need to trade the Aston in for a Honda Odyssey just because you're expecting twins.

But putting an Aston Martin DB11 in your driveway is going to cost you. It starts at $211,995, but if the price tag doesn't scare you off, you can take delivery as early as the fourth quarter of this year.

Aston Martin DB11 Revealed

This totally new DB11 has been officially revealed at Geneva motor show. It packs a all new 5.2l V12 with twin turbo which produces 600BHP and can do a sprint of 0-100 in 3.9 second.

All the electronics is provided by Mercedes so hopefully they will work this time.

Quote:
The drapes have been removed from the new DB11, billed by Andy Palmer, Aston Martin's chief executive, as "not only the most important car that Aston Martin has launched in recent history, but also in its 103-year existence." Well, they all are, Andy. Aston Martin is such a small company that it bets the farm with each new model. That's part of its appeal, for Aston's one constant is the svelte beauty of its cars, which (lest we forget) are the company wheels for one Commander James Bond.

So the DB11 is important, make no mistake. It goes on sale this autumn and will cost $211,995 in the US. It's the tenth car (there was no DB8) in a lineage that began in 1948 with the DB1 – the first car to bear the initials of then owner, David Brown. Just 15 DB1s were made, but the DB line has been the most successful model for Aston Martin over the years, including such cars as the DB5 and DB7 as well as the 2003 DB9, which was the last all-new Aston Martin.

This totally new DB11 is a clean-sheet approach from design director Marek Reichman, with a new aluminum bodyshell, suspension, cabin, and a Mercedes-Benz-based electronic architecture, which runs the systems.

The heart is a brand-new, 5.2-liter V12 boosted with two Mitsubishi Heavy Industries twin-scroll turbochargers with water-to-air inlet-charge coolers. It punches out 600 horsepower at 6,500 rpm and 516 pound-feet of torque from 1,500 rpm. Maximum speed is said to be 200 miles per hour with 0-62 acceleration in 3.9 seconds. The new engine drives the rear wheels via a ZF eight-speed automatic transmission and a mechanical limited-slip differential.

The body design started with the driver and passenger seating position. "We wanted it to be more usable in terms of space," says Minards, "after all it is a two-plus-two GT." So the DB11 is 1.18 inches longer than the DB9, but on a wheelbase that is 2.56 inches longer, achieved mainly by moving the front wheels forward. There's a 44-pound weight saving over the DB9's VH chassis, and Minards says the DB11 is a much stiffer car. The pressed and extruded aluminum pieces are joined using similar self-piercing rivets and glues as the VH chassis.

There's some trick aero in there, too. Under the twin-skinned clamshell hood (one of the biggest aluminum body pressings in the world), the front wheel arches push high-pressure air through the inner wing vents and out via the body slats to reduce front-end lift. It's called Curlique because of the way the air curls through the wheel arch. There's also a virtual trunk spoiler, which takes high pressure wind flow from the back of the rear window, pushes it through the rear of the trunk and jets it up into the air stream travelling over the car to reduce rear lift. In addition, at speeds above 96 mph, a 1.8-inch-high Gurney flap is automatically deployed on the trunk edge.

The new suspension design uses upper and lower wishbones at the front and a multi-link setup at the back. Damping happens via adjustable Bilstein units and the brakes are steel rotors with aluminum calipers from Brembo – there is torque vectoring by braking to improve agility. Steering is electrically powered by a Bosch system (the first time in an Aston Martin) and the tires are specially developed 20-inch Bridgestones.

Re: The Aston Martin DB11 with a V12 Turbo!

Lose the front grill and the evolution of the design to me is more Mercedes (SLS, GTS and the likes) than Aston Martin!
Yes, it still is unmistakably an Aston but certainly not the prettiest one for sure. And, that interior belongs maybe in a Japanese super car.

Why in the hell did they replace this -

Aston Martin president and CEO, Dr Andy Palmer, who will personally assure the quality by inspecting the first 1,000 cars, said: “It’s an exciting moment for the entire company when the first car of a new model goes into production. The DB11 is a special car and it heralds the start of a new and exciting era for Aston Martin.”

The Aston Martin DB11 has received rave reviews since its launch at the Geneva Motor Show in March. To date, over 3,000 orders for the new DB11 have been received and they will all be hand-built at the company’s sports car production plant and headquarters, in Gaydon, Warwickshire. Earlier this year, Aston Martin announced the company’s second UK manufacturing facility will open in St Athan in Wales where the new crossover will be built.

Re: The Aston Martin DB11 with a V12 Turbo!

I love this car. The exhaust note is simply brilliant. Something about the interior though doesn't shout 'British'. The regal, royal appearance seems to have been swapped for a bit of a 'tech' look. No complaints though.

Any idea when it may reach dealers in India? I'm sure there are quite a few with their cheque books in hand.

October 2016. (link)

You have to order one for yourself, and it will be custom-built and shipped to you as a CBU.

I don't think the delivery will be before early-December. Approximate price? 4-5 crore rupees, ex-showroom.

Re: The Aston Martin DB11 with a V12 Turbo!

Aston Martin DB11 AMR introduced with 630 bhp, 335 kmph top speed.

The Aston Martin DB11 AMR is new flagship variant and makes 30 bhp more than the standard V12. It's now the fastest production car from Aston Martin.

British sports car marque, Aston Martin, has introduced the flagship model of its DB11 range - the Aston Martin DB11 AMR. Launched at the opening of the new Nurburgring-based AMR Performance Centre, the new Aston Martin DB11 AMR is now on sale in the UK for £174,995, which is about just a little over Rs. 1.6 crore. Although powered by the same 5.2-litre V12 engine, the DB11 AMR does come with a sizeable boost of 30 bhp over the standard model and now offers a maximum power output of 630 bhp. Being the flagship model, the DB11 AMR can do a 0-100kmph sprint in 2.7 seconds, which is 0.2 seconds faster than the regular DB11 V12 and comes with a greater top-speed as well at 335 kmph. It's now the fastest model in Aston Martin's current series production range.

Talking about the new Aston Martin DB11 AMR, Andy Palmer, President & Chief Executive Officer, Aston Martin, said,
Quote:
"Since its initial launch back in 2016 the DB11 range has matured rapidly and intelligently, selling close to 4,200 V12 examples in that period. With the exceptional V8 Coupe and Volante we felt the V12 could reveal more of its sporting potential while remaining the consummate GT. By applying a suite of carefully considered performance and styling enhancements the DB11 AMR is both faster - 208mph! (335 kmph) - and more precise. It's a combination that engages and cossets in equal measure to create a dynamic and seductive new flagship for the DB11 range while consolidating the existing V12-powered DB11s as future collectables".

Visually distinguishing it from the regular V12 DB11 are the exposed carbon fibre and gloss black detailing used for both the exterior and interior of the car. The dark treatment is extended to other visual elements as well like dark surrounds for the headlamps and smoked LED taillamps, along with black front grille, gloss black roof, carbon fibre hood blades and black tailpipes among others. The cabin, on the other hand, comes with monotone leather and Alcantara upholstery and a bold contrasting central lime stripe, and a leather sports steering wheel as standard.

Aston Martin also offers a special AMR Signature Edition that comes with bright Stirling Green and lime livery that you see in these images. The signature edition also comes with extensive carbon fibre detailing on the exterior with matching interior draped in dark knight leather and Lime detailing, along with satin dark chrome switchgear and satin carbon fibre trim. The Aston Martin AMR Signature Edition will be strictly limited to only 100 examples worldwide and is priced at £201,995, which is about Rs. 1.84 crore, as per current exchange price.

As part of optional accessories, customers will also get to buy carbon-fibre engine cover, exhaust tips and a deployable spoiler that add further detail to the model's exterior, while a new carbon-fibre sports steering wheel and paddeshifts bring that same AMR ethos within the cabin. Right now, the car has gone on sale in the UK, the US and Germany, with the first customer deliveries slated to commence from Q2 2018.
