The Tesla Model 3, a $35,000 sedan. EDIT: Specs revealed & deliveries begin

Mod Note: BHPian Harshal.Bhosale's Tesla Model 3 Review has been taken live at this link. Please continue the discussion over on the new thread. Thanks!

The Tesla Model 3, a ,000 sedan. EDIT: Specs revealed & deliveries begin-wcfteslamodel3teaserimageteslamodel3teaserimage.jpg

Reservations for Model 3 will begin on March 31st worldwide.

Elon Musk told the world that Tesla would reveal the Model 3, it's new, more affordable take on the electric car. Musk promised only "the first pictures of the Model 3," meaning some of the details about the much-anticipated EV could remain in a dark deeper into 2016.

Model 3 will meet its promised price tag of $35,000, and that's before government incentives that could drive it significantly lower.

Tesla will begin accepting orders on the day of the event for $1,000.

Model 3 production is scheduled to begin in late 2017

re: The Tesla Model 3, a $35,000 sedan. EDIT: Specs revealed & deliveries begin

Model 3 will be competing with the likes of BMW 3 series, Merc C Class, Audi A4 etc i.e at the entry level luxury segment. Had read in some blog that this car is being of the size of Audi A4 and can seat 5 people in comfort.

$35000 being the sticker price, it will be much lesser in reality due to various incentives from the government.

$7500 Federal rebate and each state has its own incentive programs. A 200+ miles range Tesla at 25K is a bargain. The initial bookings could be huge but I'm skeptical of the delivery schedule.

As long as Tesla gets the basics right, this one looks destined to succeed. The brand's 'top down' approach has worked well and given it a 'cool' quotient that is comparable to Apple in many ways. It's really saying something when a newbie successfully fights it out with 100 year old luxury brands like Mercedes & BMW.

Plus, starting with a premium luxury sedan gave the company time to fine-tune its production & delivery operations and build its charging network at a manageable pace.

Very excited to see how the Model 3 turns out.

re: The Tesla Model 3, a $35,000 sedan. EDIT: Specs revealed & deliveries begin

I read this earlier and this is a success formulay in the making.
A close to 360 kms range in a Tesla is a great buy.

1) You save on fuel big time
2) You show your consideration for the environment
3) You show you are tech savvy
4) You now own a niche product from a genius

Overall, NY is coming up with close to a Tesla charging unit in every 10 sq. mi.
That is a great move considering Tesla's charge rapidly while you enjoy your coffee and croissants!!

Like Rush said, if Tesla gets the basics right, the success is there for the asking!!!

The $7500 rebate for electric cars is limited to first 200000 electric cars for each company. The cumulative sales of Model S + X is expected to reach 200K by Q1 or Q2 2018. This means only a few 1000 Model 3 will get the tax credit.

The rest of the cars get $3750 rebate for 6 months and $1875 for another 6 months. People are aware about this and hence a lot, a whole lot is going to queue up with booking amounts to pocket the tax credit. That amount should run into Millions. Musk really knows the game.

re: The Tesla Model 3, a $35,000 sedan. EDIT: Specs revealed & deliveries begin

Looks like folks are camping out of Tesla Stores to put down a reservation for the Model 3. There is a Excel shared in this article which has about 300 names the last i checked of folks who have signed up for the different showrooms.
http://www.teslarati.com/camp-out-at...serve-model-3/

The following are the folk who will get the first rights to book this car as of today:
Space X Employees(About 5,000 of them)
Tesla Employees (About 15,000 employees worldwide)
Tesla Owners(About 100,000 owners)

I expect about 10-20000 bookings in the first month itself. Am i being pessimistic though?

Tesla has a tremendous brand quotient that will get people to yearn to own one and this model will make that happen.

Imagine this: one day you are content with the Nissan Leafs and the Ford Fusion Hybrids and then suddenly you can get a Tesla at a near about range.

They're going to need to revaluate their supply chain and production capabilities.

They know they have to ramp up the production of batteries and that's why they are opening their Gigafactory in Nevada. That factory alone will produce as many batteries as are produced in the whole world right now.

The German edition of Wired provides a first look of what the publication claims to be a cloaked version of the Model 3 seen at the Tesla Design Center in Hawthorne, CA

The side windows looks pretty big from what i see but all in all it is a mini versio of the model S. I think the final finished product will look something different from the version we are going to see tonight.

Did anyone from our forum line up for a reservation? There are people lining up almost all their stores to reserve this car.

Waiting with fingers crossed for this one.

Pre-ordered mine this morning in CA. I was #22 in line and by the time I was out of the store there were at least 300 more people in line behind me.

I can't remember the last time so many people (current estimates are 26k in the US) that placed an order for a car sight unseen with a delivery 2 years out.

2017 can't come fast enough!

Tesla accepting reservations for Model 3 from India

So, Elon Musk sent out a tweet:
Adding several more countries to Model 3 order page tonight. Check for details, but will include India, Brazil, SA, SK, NZ, Sing & Ireland.
Here's the link to the tweet

And this tweet seems to indicate that their entire line-up (Model S, 3 and X) will be made available

I'm staying up for the unveil
