Fiat Mobi officially launched in Brazil

Fiat Brazil has officially launched the Mobi. This A-segment vehicle is available in six variants - Easy, Easy On, Like, Like On, Way, Way On. The Way and Way On variants get plastic cladding around the wheel arches and roof-rails, which give the car a crossover look.

The base variant comes with 13-inch wheels, while all other variants get 14-inch wheels. The interiors include an infotainment system with a 4-inch display, and Bluetooth and USB connectivity.

All the variants have a 1.0-litre, 4-cylinder engine which runs on petrol and ethanol. This engine produces 72 BHP and 93 Nm of torque while running on petrol. The power output is increased to 75 BHP and 97 Nm of torque when switched to ethanol. The power is transmitted to the front wheels through a 5-speed manual gearbox.

The Mobi will compete against the Renault Kwid, which will soon be available in Brazil as an import form India.

Looks pretty decent and better in features compared to the Kwid (Retractable Seat belts ).

This is how KUV100 would have looked, if the quirky bits had been done away with

How about Fiat launching this as the new Uno?! The car does have a high nostalgic value as it was one of the best at its time. Mobi also looks squarish and with the toughness, it does share the character.

Any thoughts?

Re: Fiat Mobi officially launched in Brazil

What's the weight and boot space of the car? From the rear three quarter, it doesn't look like it'll beat Renault Kwid's 300 liter boot.

Also, what's the USP of this car? No scoop has indicated at AMT or a plan to introduce one. Unless they differentiate it significantly, the car will have a tough time in India among all tried and tested products.

Good to see 4 nuts for the wheels compared to three on the Kwid.

Re: Fiat Mobi officially launched in Brazil

What amazes me is the ferocity with which FIAT tries to defend the Brazilian market. It was not too long back that reports came in regarding the development for a crossover small car from FIAT to counter the Kwid which might be imported from India to Brazil. From development to testing (several spy pics too) to launch has been done even before the Kwid got launched there! Brazil also has a fantastic lineup of FIAT cars and the result shows.

Compare this to FIAT India! These two can well be the two poles of a magnet. Somebody need to tell them Kwid has been a blockbuster success and a good product without service support has been able to take on Maruti Suzuki by opening up a mini segment for itself. Now would be a good time to take them head on, before the segment gets crowded since it's Renault against FIAT- whichever poison suits you. They have the product, but by the time they react- the market would have moved on.

Looks solid and well built (compared to Alto/Alto 800). Six variants looks a bit too much in my opinion. Can confuse potential buyers!
Surprisingly the car looks well without the plastic claddings and the extra butch claddings look unnecessary. Glad Fiat didn't go with the trend and gave a full 1L 4 cylinder mill instead of a 3 cylinder one. Can surely rattle the A segment if marketed well!

Looks well built for a A segment! Kwid is an awesome car, but cant ignore the fact that cost cutting is evident everywhere! This might have moderate success if launched here. But given the poor Pan India presence of FCA dealers cant really expect big numbers!

By the way, apart from Maruti and Hyundai who else takes Indian Car market seriously ? Look at Toyotas Indonesian line up and compare that with ours. Not considering Tata and M&M since this is their home turf. I really don't find any of the big international player really serious about us at the moment, all we get is step motherly treatment with sub par products/specs or expensive CBUs. It may change, hopefully soon.

Can't compare the two. It's obvious that Fiat will give its best talent and resources to Brazil as the Italian brand is the Maruti of Brazil! No. 1 manufacturer with 4 models in the top 10 list.

Similar to how Suzuki continues to invest in India, but withdrew out of the USA (the largest & most profitable car market in the world).

Unexpected results for Fiat.!
Looks like the Cost cutting bug has bitten this Italian marque as well.
Copying the text from LatinNCAP results

The Brazilian made*Fiat Mobi*achieved one star for Adult Occupant Protection and two stars for Child Occupant Protection. The Mobi offered marginal protection for the adults' chests in the frontal test and a stable structure, however, in the side impact the protection offered was poor. The structural performance of the Mobi in the side impact showed high penetration like in the recently published Chevrolet Onix, the lack of side airbags coupled with the poor structural performance explained the low score. The rear door opened during the side impact crash test exposing child occupants to potential risks. The lack of three point seatbelts in all seating positions as well as not having standard ISOFIX anchorages is a concern as it limits the proper installation of CRSs.

Nah ! Just check the last photo in the opening post. The seats are touching the C-pillar..

There should be sufficient space in the boot for the toolkit, or at best, the spare wheel kept up-right,

Could Latin NCAP be retesting it?
