2017 Range Rover Sport revealed with new autonomous tech Land Rover has revealed the 2017 Range Rover Sport. The major changes include a new engine and added equipment. The British car maker has also added various personalization options for the Sport, as well as new autonomous driving technologies.
The 2017 Range Rover Sport comes with Jaguar Land Rover’s 2.0-litre Ingenium diesel engine. The variant with this new engine, named SD4 HSE, will now be the entry level trim for the RR Sport range. This thus replaces the 3.0-litre SDV6 variant, which was previously the entry level model. This new engine develops 236 BHP and 500 Nm of torque, and is capable of accelerating the Sport from 0 to 100 km/h in 8.0 seconds.
In addition to the new engine, Land Rover has also added autonomous and semi-autonomous technologies to the RR Sport. The Low Traction Launch system allows the SUV to be pulled away on surfaces that don't offer much grip. This is done by controlling the amount of torque the driver can apply. The 2017 Range Rover Sport also gets the Tow Assist Feature, that lets the driver set the direction of the trailer while reversing by using the rotary dial of the Terrain Response 2 system. Once the direction is punched into the system, the vehicle automatically makes the necessary steering adjustments to minimize driver stress. It also gets blind-spot detection and autonomous emergency braking system to ensure occupant safety.
There is also an intelligent speed limiter on-board the 2017 Sport that can read speed limit signs on the road and can thus automatically prevent the car from crossing that particular speed. Additionally, a driver condition monitoring system continuously monitors the driver inputs, and takes into account the time of day and the journey time to detect driver fatigue. If the system finds the driver dozing off, it sends warning to the driver.
The 2017 Range Rover Sport is equipped with a bigger 10-inch infotainment display. This system comes with Land Rover's InControl Touch Pro technology that has replaced physical buttons from the dashboard to soft, capacitive buttons on the screen. It also features tablet-style pinch and zoom functions. Link to Team-BHP News
