Pininfarina to produce hydrogen fuel-cell race car

Pinifarnia that is now owned by Mahindra & Mahindra, will do a limited run of 10 units for its hydrogen fuel cell race car. Built on a Le Mans Prototype 2 racing chassis homologated for FIA competition, the Pininfarina H2 Speed will be for track-use only and will feature a powertrain consisting of two electric motors putting out at least 503 horsepower to the rear wheels.

According to Pininfarina CEO Silvio Pietro Angori, a working prototype should be ready by early next year, with production units arriving in another 12 to 14 months.

The Pininfarina H2 Speed is expected to cost around $2.5-million and will boast a zero-to-62 mph time of 3.4 seconds. At its debut at the 2016 Geneva Motor Show, Pininfarina also revealed that the race car can be refueled with a full tank of hydrogen in just three minutes.
