Re: 50 years of the Toyota Corolla!

Congrats Toyota Corolla

I have a 13 year old 9th Gen - actually I bought it only an year back and it went in floods. Spent lot of time and energy to bring it back as I do not want to lose it as I simply loved the way it drove. Fantastic rear seats and my family loves them, descent power and good steering to my tastes. I recently drove on the Salem - Ulundurpet highway and just to give a short thrill to my kids. Even, at higher speeds, the 13 year old Toyota Corolla was solid without any floating feeling and perfect. I Love this car and would keep it after doing the FC in the next couple of years.

Forgot to mention, the low end is fantastic for my city drives, so easy !

Re: 50 years of the Toyota Corolla!

Toyota has released official photos of the 2017 Corolla Altis (US version) and a "50th Anniversary" special edition of the same car, to commemorate 50 years of the Corolla brand.

Quote:
To celebrate, the 2017 Toyota Corolla arrives at the New York auto show with a visual refresh and a new, limited-run 50th Anniversary Special Edition model.

Changes to all 2017 Toyota Corolla sedans are primarily cosmetic, beginning with a new front grille and a tweaked interior, along with new headlights on all trims, new paint color choices, and a standard backup camera.

Toyota has no changes planned for the Corolla’s powertrain, so the car will continue to offer a 1.8-liter inline-four engine. Most models will make 132 hp, though the LE Eco trim level will boast 140 hp.

The 50th Anniversary Special Edition is based on the Corolla SE, and is limited to just 8,000 units in the U.S. market. Upgrades include 17-inch wheels with gray accents, a seven-inch touchscreen with navigation through the Scout GPS Link app, a 4.2-inch color instrument-cluster display, push-button start, LED headlights, 50th Anniversary badges and floor mats, plus Black Cherry stitching for the seats, steering wheel, shifter, and center armrest.

The model will be offered in Black Cherry, Classic Silver, and Blizzard Peal paint schemes starting this fall.

Re: 50 years of the Toyota Corolla!

My very first car was a pre-owned 1985 Toyota Corolla, that makes it 5th gen I think. Here is the photo of that car from the day I bought. I owned it for about 16 months.

Re: 50 years of the Toyota Corolla!

The Toyota Corolla is a brand which will always have a special place in my heart. I grew up with one, and then owned one when i relocated to a new country.

My childhood memories are associated with a 1980 Toyota Corolla DX which my dad owned for a few years. It looked a bit similar to these, sans the alloys ofcourse! I remember it not having an AC as a standard fitment, and had an aftermarket AC installed. This made the car slightly less reliable than it should have been and i remember us being stranded on the highway once with the car overheating.

My first car when i moved to Australia was a Corolla, partly because of the memories associated with the brand when growing up. It served me well for the 1.5 years i used it, with not a single rattle or squeak, and turned out to be a good ROI when i decided to sell it. Some pics from trips we undertook in it:
